ipod/editing music help needed

I've been asked to do some quiz questions for my local school and want to do a "beat the intro" round. I have all the songs I need on my iPod and itunes but how do I take just 3 or 4 seconds of the opening and not the rest. I have a CD burner as well if that helps.

Remember I am only semi-computer literate.

    I'm not aware of any obvious straightforward way of doing this. Although some ipods (the 3rd generation onwards I think) have a game in them called music quiz which does exactly what you want.

    It will play about 5 seconds of a track on your ipod and you have to guess which one it is. However you have no control over which track it plays.

    You could always press the stop button after x seconds!?
