  • what a great thread and starter call - i really cannot argue with that selection!
  • What, no Shirtliff?
  • ok if it's top 6, then shirtliff should definitely be included!

Just for his consistency I would like to nominate Fortune to add to that list
  • Miguel Llera (to save Miss Piggy posting)
  • In no particular order - Webster, Rufus, Costa, Gatting, Brown

Gatting may seem a strange one but always liked the way he was calm on the ball.
  • That I have seen - Rufus, Elliott, Shirtliff, Webster, Costa.
  • i have never seen mc carthy and liera play, apart from internet highlights, but even from across the atlantic they sounded accident prone and less than assured? surely they cannot compare with the blood n guts titans that started the thread?

    Balmer
    Webster
    Costa
    Rufus (best!)
  • Chris Perry
  • Steve thompson not the most gifted not as good as players mentioned but he would run through a brick wall for the cause.
  • Rufus, Went, Reeves, Elliott, Costa.

  • From my time supporting charlton

    Rufus
    Costa
Fish (before his table accident in 2004)
    Youds
    Perry
  • Mine would be:

    Paul Went

    Stuart Balmer
    Paul Elliott

    Not in any particular order.
  • No Bobby Goldthorpe or Peter Shaw?

Had forgotten those two. Can we have more than five?

    Derek Ufton (full England international)
Marvin Hinton (England U 23 international)
    Paul Elliott (England U21 international)
    Richard Rufus (Engalnd U21 international)
    Jorge Costa (full Portuguese international)
Edit; Have had the pleasure of seeing all these ex players at the Valley in our colours.
  • Well done Man about Town, Marvin Hinton was the coolest Centre Half, if you don't mind, that I ever saw.
  • 1 Elliot
    2 Ufton
    3 Rufus
    4 Costa
    5 Hinton

    Subs bench Went Reeves Fish
  • Good question . Here's my choice :

    1. Jorge Costa
    2. Richard Rufus
    3. Peter Shirtliff
    4. Paul Elliott
    5. Paul Miller (for the Battle of the Bridge)

  • Paul Went was a favourite icon but as a player he does not get into the top 5. Back then our defence was leaky and he wasn't playing against top class strikers. I think he gets into peoples lists because he was part of a team that many including me can still name man for man!

No argument that Rufus was number 1.
