We do not live in the States but my wife is from Glendale and we are visiting relatives over August based in Newport Beach .We spend a month every year there and will also be in Santa Monica ,Pasadena and San Francisco .

We have a family home in Balboa Island which is essentially Newport Beach. About 45 mins south of LA. Wife went to school in NB and spend a month or so a year out there. Probably know Orange County better than LA always wonder if there are Addicks over there when I am there. Saw a Cafc shirt randomly in Irvine County Park once as I was driving out.

Used to get out regularly as sister in law lived in L.A. But sadly (madly) she moved to Arkansas. Not been to see her since she moved!

Being honest didn't like LA itself much but loved areas both North & South of the city.

As long as you ignore the small matter of there being no non-stop (or direct for that matter) flights from DUB to LAX. So really, it's further away!
