Would you take Almunia

Watford have announced who is leaving at the end of june
http://www.watfordfc.com/news/article/140604-released-players-announcement-1602043.aspx

On that list is Almunia, would you take him as experienced backup to Nick Pope
I would but think his wages would be to high for a backup player

Comments

  • You have just answered your own question there.
  • no, the side effects are terrible.
  • Only if I had a headache.
  • Almunia - the next country to join the EU .....?

  • Nah, I'd let him do me.
  • I would take him .Of the other experienced Keepers I have heard mentioned ,Schwarzer excited me but I have just posted that he is poised to sign another one year deal with Chelsea on the rumours thread . Watford have just signed Gomes from Spurs , so I cannot see them needing 2 senior Goalies.
  • Low wages and back up yes.

High wages and first team? no, rather have Pope come in.

Watford already confirmed Almunia is leaving that was in the link
  • He would probably be on big wages.

Good keeper at this level though and would maybe want to stay down south.
  • Manuel Almunia, Marco Cassetti, Ross Jenkins and Nyron Nosworthy will all leave Vicarage Road when their contracts expire in June.

The short-term contracts of Fitz Hall, Lucas Neill and Albert Riera all finish this summer and the trio will also depart Vicarage Road.

Goalkeeper Gary Woods’ contract expires at the end of the month although the club continues to have dialogue with the player’s representatives.

  • Wages are the issue.
  • Marco Cassetti would be a brilliant signing at centre back IMO.
  • Fitz Hall as a squad replacement for Leon Cort ?
  • It depends on if it will strengthen us and keep us up for longer, if not, I'd rather take Viagra
  • If we got Almunia I would be very worried. He is a catastrophe. Fuck it - I'd get in shape and out him in 6 months for half his wages

No way. I'd rather give Pope a chance with an experienced back up that isn't Almunia. He is an awful goalkeeper.

I wouldn't want to live next door to a gang of Almunians.
  • I'd rather have Jonathan Bond than Almunia.
  • I'd rather have Jonathan Acworth than Almunia.

    Steady on

  • Think we need to spend our seemingly limited wage budget elsewhere to be honest. We have a decent keeper who deserves a go, and a backup GK rarely gets a look in anyway. What we need are strikers, wingers, cm and cb, all for the price of a tesco meal deal.

I am happy with Pope starting but if he gets injured, I dont feel as confident with just having Phillips not yet anyway

But are you happy with Church starting and where do we go if he gets injured? Same with our right midfield... which currently consists of a CM played out of position.

Dont get me wrong I'd like plenty of quality cover, but the starting 11 needs to be sorted first

Starting 11 play Harriott LW, Wilson RW and Polish Pete or Reza in the middle, so just like Pope its ok to start with but needs improvement
  • only with a glass of water
