  • Confirmed he's leaving, no new contract, he was expecting to stay but it isn't and it's the decision of the chairman
  • Not been told why he is not wanted by roly. He stressed he wanted to stay
  • Wants to stay in England had a good few months and says it's a good club. Says he has fell in love with the country
  • Said he wanted and hoped to stay but didn't expect it as there was nothing in his contract, nor any verbal agreements.
  • Sad listening to that, comes across as a really nice guy. And reiterated he wanted to stay with us. Would like a club in the championship if he has the chance
  • Also put himself firmly into the shop window for all other Championship clubs.
  • Comes over as a nice guy. He makes it quite clear that he would have liked to stay at Charlton and it was not his choice! Let's hope Roland's next choice is as good!
  • All very odd. Roland brings him in, he does well, then isn't wanted anymore. Bizarre
  • Said he didn't expect the Championship standard to be as high as it was in terms of players, managers, stadiums and media attention but everyone at the club and outside of it made him feel very welcome and that he fell in love with English football.

NOOOOO YOU ARE A DIRTY RAT
  • Terrible shame but we have to assume there is a plan afoot....I liked Riga and more importantly the players seemed to.

You have the cards now RD.
  • Very strange not to appoint Riga especially after listening to that interview , he must really just rate Peeters
  • Strange.
    Can I panic yet?
  • Disappointing. Jose at least deserved to have been told why he wasn't being kept on. Don't like the way RD appears to be going about things.
  • I was sad about SCP ,but I can now understand why he went. I really do not get this. Now I know he wanted to stay I'm gutted.
  • Still won't believe until it's on the OS etc etc

That is two gentlemen we have lost now. Let's hope RD knows what he is doing.

  • Beyond ridiculous
  • I think it's a big shame. He came under a bit of pressure, replacing CP, emotions running high among us supporters and yet he quietly turned our season (just in time) and the end goal.....we stayed up!
I find it really strange, the players seemed to like him, the fans certainly took to him and it seemed he 'suited' our club??
And just then on ssn a real breath of fresh air, honestly answering all the questions put to him (unlike many!) a quality interview.
    #confused
Good luck and thank you Jose wherever you end up you will always be fondly remembered down at the valley!

Thanks to Jose Riga for everything he did for the club and helped us massively to stay in the league. Sad to see him go

Surely, no one was expecting Riga to stay ?

If he was going to stay I reckon we would have known, when the season ended.

Riga never gave the slighest inkling that he was staying.

The only logical conclusion is that RD believes Peeters is better.

Yes, it seems weird, but Riga didn't have a contract beyond the end of the season.

If a better manager than Powell was available/able to be obtained, on a reasonable wage, would we be wrong to not get him, if we wish to "move forward" ?

    It's all very confusing.

  • I think stability is a thing of the past.

    Excellant post
  • It all seems very odd, Riga has gone after he had achieved the task he was set out to do and comfortably as well.

I can't judge his decision yet as after his last unpopular one he proved himself right, so I will sit here patiently until I pass any real judgement.
