I know we are 6 games unbeaten

But are we out of ideas or simply playing better teams? Perhaps we were spoilt with 8 goals in three - it's just that the shots on goal have dried up and then Lisbie shows up after another couple in the reserves.

Can anyone see how Pardew will change it around for this last push? It's great to pick up 5 points with only one goal scored and the defence is superb - just that we need something more to secure those last couple of wins - especially against Sheffield United

  • Agreed, that's why I said yesterday that it might be worth bringing Lisbie in up front and maybe Rommedahl in for Thomas (who looks very tired) just to freshen things up and try something different. The main worry is that we are misusing Benty and we need him on the ball a lot more, lets play Lisbie "on the last man" and let Benty drop deeper to pick the ball up and come from deep.

    good post.

I said after the Reading game we were looking a little leggy and sluggish. I looked like we have been reacting more in the last couple of games than being proactive.

None of us know who is carrying minor knocks etc so that complicates things a little, but i think there is a definate need, possibly after the Everton game where we we need battlers, to freshen things up offensively and take a few more risks. We simply weren't getting enough players into the final third on monday, and when we did we lacked conviction.

As most know, i'm not Romm's biggest fan, but i think we may need to take a risk on him as he gives us that pace injection down the right that other teams worry about. Is it a co-incidence that Thomas has just fallen slightly since Romm has come out the team ? There may be a case that the opposition are able to get another covering midfielder accross to nullify Thomas as we are playing more narrow down the right ?
  • i don't know about everyone else but when ambrose picks up the ball i have no hope of anything positive happening but when dennis picks it up there's a small amount of me that thinks something might happen(doesn't usually tho)

I know! It amazes me that the whole crowd still gets excited whn Dennis gets the ball after a couple of years of disappointment.

It amazes me that Romm - and now Thomas - get all the flak when Ambrose is absolute kack.
  • Thing is we know Rommedahl has got the Pedigree & quality to do stuff & so do most of the opposition & they are far more worried when he is on the pitch than not. Seldom does the player himself step up to the plate which is a real shame & when he goes he'll probably go to some dutch side & terrorise players in the champions league & we'll be going ...why didn't he do that for us...!
  • Good point being made about Thomas recently receiving all the attention from defenders -often 2 or 3 opponents covering him - he doesn't usually get that attention when Rommers is on the park; opponents are too worried about Rommers streaking away unchallenged.

Perhaps they also know that Thomas will just twist and turn in on himself, beating the same man twice, before sending in a deep cross that's easily challenged.

Now Ambrose doen't normally get marked by any opponent. What do defenders know that we don't? ;-)
  • Whoever plays there has to be more movement, Thomas and Ambrose are not delivering at the moment so I would drop them both, definitely Ambrose and certainly bring Denis back, maybe Lisbie out wide. At Everton, I think I'd have Faye back with Song and Holland.
So maybe ZZ and Romm supporting DB ?
  • agree with ya salad , we'll be loking to hit everton on the break so dennis is the perfect outlet

I was with you until you mentioned bringing Lisbie and Faye into the side!

  • Dennis is a very good option as a substitute with 30 minutes to go. if it hadn't been for the enforced substitutes against Reading I think it is likely that he would have come on and could have made a difference. I would rather play a more defensive midielder at the start, keep a clean sheet and then with 30 minutes to go bring Dennis in to attack a tiring opposition midfield and defence and make a chance for Bent.
Another thing is that Bent is getting very few through balls along the ground to run on to, with only Thomas's mis-directed centres he doesn't have a chance.
  • Spot on about, Benty.......there's nobody creating for him.

No decent crosses, no decent throughballs, no knockdowns.
    No service = no goals.

All he has is scraps, rebounds and whatever he forages for himself.

    Sort it out, Pards! ;-)
