I am hoping that maybe Poyet getting POTY is enough to convince him to stay. Granted I don't know how much sentiment plays a part, and we all know he'll probably go onto play at a higher level. However, you could tell by his reaction he genuinely wasn't expecting the award. Maybe he'll think that one more season here won't be such a bad thing. He has to weigh up going to someone in the Prem and getting farmed out on loan, or having another successful season at the heart of our midfield, where he knows the club, the surroundings etc. I guess it is hard because he may genuinely feel (an be ready) to play in the Prem. In which case he'll take the step up.
I guess we also have to see what RD has in place. A lot of the feedback I have had from POTY award was that many first team players have said they are completely in the dark and nothing is on the table. Do people know at what date the majority stopped being paid? Is it June 1st?
I would guess that any that are not getting offered new deals will be released in the coming weeks, like Bolton and Huddersfield have already started doing.
. Do people know at what date the majority stopped being paid? Is it June 1st?
31st June is when the contracts expire but if a player doesn't have a contract clubs are obliged to pay them one month's more money. Don't know why that is the case (or certainly was the case a few years ago) but it is.
I thought what Poyet said sounded promising - then Wilson saying what an honour it was to play with him, even for a few games sounded like they might be his last few games. Maybe we shouldn't read too much into the interviews. Wouldn't we be buzzing if Riga, Morro, Dervitte and Poyet signed new deals- and that is just keeping the squad at the level it was at the end of this season. If we lose them - how do we replace them, then strengthen beyond that?
I wouldn't have thought Diego would have been quite so fulsome about the club and us fans if he was really about to leave, would he? Hopeful sign, but I am an incurable optimist.

Yes, still the case. If by the expiry of the contract the club has not made the player an offer of re-engagement then the player will receive another month's basic pay or until the player signs for another club, whichever is shorter. If they do secure a contract with another club within that month at a lower wage then the outgoing club will also make up any shortfall for the duration of that one month period.

So we should know soon enough.
Been a pleasure watching you Diego
