Luis Suarez - football writers' Player of the Year

edited May 2014 in General Charlton
Not bad for a player who served a 10-match domestic ban for biting Chelsea defender Branislav Ivanovic.

And who racially abused Patrice Evra during a game against Manchester United in October; he was given an eight-game suspension and a £40,000 fine

WELL DONE Luis.......Mug

  • make his achievements this season all the more impressive doesn't it?
  • His crying after the game today was good viewing.
  • His crying after the game today was good viewing.

As I said after the biting incident, a sad excuse for a male of the human race and his actions after the final whistle confirmed this.
  • His crying after the game today was good viewing.

Absolutely. And to think some would rather see his smug little face with the Premier League trophy.

Come on City, see it out....
  • Giving him football writers player of the season is a dirty kick in the shaft. Suarez is a fooking racist. They should know the filthy dirt bags they wrote about it...
  • Not defending him, but why should his past behaviour stop him from receiving an award for being the best player in the league.
He's deserved it, he been the best this season.

MSE7, this seems to have really upset you, and I really don't know why.
  • Wonder if Jeremy Clarkson will get the TV Presenter of the year award

It's not man of the year though, is it? And him and Toure have been by some distance the best players.
  • Toure is a class player.
  • Just to clarify, he said something racist to Evra. It isn't definitive proof that he actually is racist, only he knows if he is.

  • He was found guilty though
  • His ban at the start of the season probably cost his team the title this year.... I would say that is reason enough not to have him win any award this season.
  • He's been the best so he deserves it simple really
  • and who said cheats never win

    Banned for biting
    Racially abused Evra
    Dives like a submarine

OK no-one is looking for a saintly Gary Lineker nominee for the award, but to my mind those points don't make him a good player! It's not all about the results, it is about how you get them!
  • They did win their first five games without him but then drew 2-2 at Swansea and lost at home to Southampton 1-0 before he returned to the team. I guess they really should have taken at least 4 points rather than 1 from those two games so perhaps his ban did cost them in the end

Also because they might have scored a lot more goals early on with him playing (they only scored 9 goals in their first 7 games) so might have had a much better goal difference.

They have scored 90 (NINETY) goals in the 30 games since he returned to the team, so its a pretty fair bet that had he played those first 7 games they might easily have scored another 10 goals and be ahead on goal difference.

He does bear some blame but I'd also be looking at their shit house back four that have conceded 49 goals this season in the League - that's only the TENTH best defensive record in the PL! Even HULL have a better defensive record.

Saintly gary Lineker ... who dived twice against Cameroon!!
  • Football writers can fill whole feet of column inches with football's problem with its racism or the negative image of players yet voting for this guy purely on the basis that he has carried a team to the Premier League title but for one game left to play is not exactly helping the problem is it? For subjective honours like this, players ought to be ambassadors of the game on and off the pitch. Granted he seems to have turned a corner in that he has been the complete pillock he was before he got the ban but writers ought to tread carefully about the impact this will have on the perception of the football world not taking racism seriously when they are many who are citing the fact that non-white players are being constantly overlooked for such awards.
  • His crying after the game today was good viewing.

I saw that - why was he crying ?

  • Yaya Toure should be the name on this award
  • It is player of the year not role model of the year.

Personally I dont like the fella, but neither the Evra incident or the biting were this season.

You could say this win is a good example of rehabilitation at work.

This. In sports, politics, comedy, whatever... Great men/women are not always great people.

This. He's had an awesome season.
  • Suarez is the best player in England, simple as that.
  • Can't really argue with Suarez as the winner.
  • Class player
  • Best player in England against teams like Norwich.

Put him up against a top team and doesn't even look like he's playing.
  • Let's hope arsenal never win anything again as tainted by their dodgy promotion to top flight after the First World War.
