Only seen Gerard a couple of times thought he was ok but thought holmes Dennis or poyet were better who was playing in a similar position , I rate sho silva highly but surprised he hasn't scored more at welling has he been playing up front or as a winger ?
Good to see players getting more time. Bit of a concern Sho-Silva's not scoring at Welling but he's still getting games so must be doing something right. Anyone know where he's playing for them? Has he been playing out wide?
Surprised and pleased about this. I had feared they were going to be moved on. I think this demonstrates the value of the U21 system which can allow young pros to be kept on for a further couple of years.
I thought Sho-Silva performed well for the youth team in the Cup run a couple of years ago and I have liked the look of Gerard when he has played .He is genuinely left footed and as we have seen with AA and Jacko , having lefties playing in central positions makes us look more balanced.
Harry Gerard is very skilful, all left foot but a bit lightweight. Sho Silva is direct and pacy but is not a natural goalscorer. I am not surprised that they have been given one year contracts but am not sure either will make it in the Championship. I hope I am proved wrong. I would like to see Ollie Muldoon given a contract. I heard that Leavander Pyke was going to get a contract but I can't see it anywhere.
Gerard and Muldoon came through the Academy together in midfield. Muldoon is probably slightly ahead at the moment, but it's a very important year for both of them. They have got every incentive now, they know they'll get every opportunity at Charlton to get in the first team.
It's too early to tell the recruitment strategy for next season but I reckon the academy will take up a lot of the slack created by so many departures.
Everything has pointed towards the youth being an integral part of RD's plans and the performances of Poyet, Cousins, Harriott and Fox in recent weeks, not to mention Pope's performances out on loan, will only strengthen RD's vision.
But with players like Cort, Hughes and Wood likely to move on, bringing in some old heads will be much needed to help guide on and off the pitch. Anyone who read Cousins' comments in the programme on how those senior players helped him through Powell's departure will see what they bring to the table even when not playing.
Hopefully we'll get the balance between youth and experience right.

Which is exactly why I think we should retain the services of Hughes. If we are going to be relying on the youth, we need the old heads to help them out. Hughes as a player coach would be great. Knows the players, their strengths as weaknesses and seems to get along with all of them on twitter.

I think Riga, when he made comment about players who might not play a lot but still give so much the team, might have been referring to Hughes.
(1) Hs's at the end of his career but does he want to continue playing Football for a bit longer even if it means dropped to League One (old club Scunthorpe just promoted) or League Two
(2) Does he want to be a Player-Coach in which case we should keep him
(3) Is he going to retire and do a Shaun Derry and try his luck at Management

Also remember he has kept his family home in Harrogate.

Another year each. Congrats to them.
really hope Tobi kicks on as seems to have the pace and height to be a really useful striker.

Solly, Wilson (in a round about way), Lennon, Fox, Cousins, Poyet, Hariott.
