First off, my prayers are with our fellow Addick and his family. Praying for a speedy and full recovery.

Top Man Rylo! Being first aid trained myself I hope never to have to use it - hope I can step up as well as you did!

My better half is a Paramedic and I know from what she tells me that when someone has been given CPR pretty much from the off, that it can make a huge difference to the outcome - and it sounds like it has in this instance.

Both she and I would urge everyone to get some basic first aid training - you never know when you might need to use it, and last night's incident shows that it *does* make a difference.

    Supposed to be a reward

Hearing stuff like this makes you realise how important First Aid skills are. I havent done any First Aid of any kind since I picked up my badge in the cub scouts about 30 years ago. So, today I've signed myself up to a St John's Ambulance course to put things right. I'm likely to pass out at the sight of bloody but I'm going to give it a go.
  • Full support for some award to Rylo and maybe fans to sponsor defibs.for each stand to reduce time taken to use this vital equipment? I don't know the cost but spread over say 15,000 people a pound or two each would cover it?

Rylo. You certainly are a hero. This shows the importance of getting CPR training. On the scale of 'wanting to help someone else', this probably tops the list. I doff my cap to you. :-)

    Well done, Rylo.

Hope the gentleman makes a full and speedy recovery.

Hopefully the club will make some sort of gesture to Rylo for this.

Well done Rylo, a hero at work & your time off.
  • Unreal @Rylo‌, what an absolute hero, simple as that.

There were plenty of heroes at the Valley last night but none in the same league as yourself.

I hope you get the recognition you deserve from your actions, top top man.
  • Good luck to the chap in hospital, thoughts to him and family and hope he pulls through ok.

Fabulous job Rylo, not only may you have saved this chaps life but who knows, some people on here and in the stadium may now be inspired to sign up to a course and do the same in future.

Taking JohnBoyUK's lead, first aid courses including resuscitation, £25 all over the UK.

Think I may sign up myself. Pondering last night made me realise how hopeless I would feel if someone was in trouble and I could not help them.

Such a great sight when I get to a cardiac arrest to see someone doing good CPR. Yes we might carry all the fancy kit but a defibrillator is next to useless without CPR being done before it's use.
Well done Rylo, sounds like a top effort. Fingers crossed the chap makes a good recovery.

  • Respect, Rylo.

I'm thinking about having RYLO tattooed somewhere, err, special..

Don't say that Fanny, cos some genius will come up with a bet with that as the forfeit and then they'll demand photographic evidence afterwards. Oh Greenie Jr, what HAVE you started?

  • Well done Rylo you should be very proud of your actions. I've performed CPR myself numerous times in the controlled conditions of an Operating Theatre. To do so on the cold steps of a football stadium with limited space and thousands watching could not have been easy. Here's hoping the guy makes a full recovery.

A useful link to enquire about getting a defibrillator and basic training in CPR at work, public places and in the community.

Agree with all the sentiments expressed by other fans...very well done.

PS: Perhaps you could see your way to sitting next to the geezer who sits behind me? The way he carries on, he's a proper candidate!

Charlton do have several Defibs at the ground.
There is a very extensive medical cover provided by the club for games.
You start with the SJA providing the crowd medical needs which is supported by a doctor who is based in the medical room. The club also have a crewed ambulance at the ground but the main reason of being at the ground is more player problems, but should the need arise, assist with crowd incidents such as this week. Also the stretcher team are also medics who can be used again should the need arise. There are many medical people (such as myself) in the crowd who would assist (and i have done several times) when someone is taken ill until the SJA arrives.
The Ambulance service also has an officer present at the ground who with a control room memeber can arrange extra assistance should they need too.

This is very comforting information, thank you.
