Remaining Fixtures

OK, deep breaths now everyone! Disappointing result tonight but there is still all to play for and we really have to focus on our own games but its definitely worth looking at what our rivals still have to do.

Realistically, Watford are gone so its two spots between Fulham, Wigan, Charlton, Sheff Utd and West Ham.

Here are the games remaining....

FULHAM: Reading (A), Blackburn (H), Arsenal (A), Liverpool (H), Boro (A) - I predict 4 POINTS GAINED

WIGAN: Spurs (H), Liverpool (A), West Ham (H), Boro (H), Sheff Utd (A) - I predict 5 POINTS GAINED

CHARLTON: Everton (A), Sheff Utd (H), Blackburn (A), Spurs (H), Liverpool (A) - I predict 6 POINTS GAINED (1 win, 3 draws)

SHEFF UTD: West Ham (H), Man Utd (A), Charlton (A), Watford (H), Villa (A), Wigan (H) - I predict 7 POINTS GAINED

WEST HAM: Sheff Utd (A), Chelsea (H), Everton (H), Wigan (A), Bolton (H), Man Utd (A) - I predict 7 POINTS GAINED

Therefore, according to my calculations, if we beat Sheff Utd at home then there is a pretty good chance we might end up staying up on GOAL DIFFERENCE!!!

If we can get a sneaky away win at Everton or Blackburn, which with our tightened defence has to be a possibility, then we will give ourselves an even better chance....

  • We do still have a chance but I think we now need other results to go for us.

You're right though. All the time the defence remains solid there is a chance of nicking draws or even wins away from home.
  • And of course, teams at the bottom still have to play each other.

And all teams have awkward top 6 fixtures.

So I doubt anybody at the bottom is going to haul in all of the points they think they can get.
  • Charlton and west ham best start praying the Sheff Utd and Wigan both don't only need a draw on the final day to be sure of staying up.
  • Very good point SOS

Now that would be a real bitch!
  • It's the last 10 mins of the last match that bothers me...assuming they know the scores coming from elsewhere. Can see revenge for BDL's excellent intervention at The Valley.
  • can't argue with the excitement factor though, can we !
  • I can't see Fulham picking up another point to be honest... I'd make them and Sheff Utd the teams most likely.

Unless you get relegated, believe me relegation is not very exciting!!
  • :)

    Made me smile.................

    And sing and shout...................

I know what you mean though, it has happened plenty of times before.
  • I don't get why people think that Sheffield United are good enough to pick up points full stop? They are a shockingly poor side, who look even worse with Rob Hulse out.

There down, Wigan have massive problems and we should be looking to get past them now

looking at their fixture list i think you're right but i'm hoping that, as long as we are safe, fulham can stay up too as its an easy trip...wigan and sheff utd would be my first choices to go down purely from a location point of view...
  • I don't see Fulham getting a signle point, let alone 4.

people were saying this about man city 3 weeks ago... for me it's out of us , sheff utd and west ham for the last 2 spots
  • Citeh hadn't gone 1 win in 15 to be fair to them
  • When it comes to the business end of the season, It does seem to me that a lot of these crunch games at the bottom usually end in a draw.....certainly did for us :-(

I think 38 points will be enough to stay up and that Fulham are capable of beating Blackburn or Boro....who by the way are managed by Colemans former Palace team mate.........not that would affect things I'm sure ;-)

Given your away record I think you have to beat Sheff Utd and Spurs or it's goodnight.
  • Every team has the capability of a win in them, and could come from any of the fixtures. One win not only changes the league table, it changes belief, outlook and expectation.

Every result is unrepdictable and crucial. I think its going to be impossible to forecast accurately, and we simply have to take it on a week by week basis.

As someone else said earlier, we need to lower our concentation on other clubs, and just give everything we can to getting behind ours.

I think that just about wraps up this thread!

I agree. Personally i feel Fulham will get a win out of their remaining games and Wigan aren't playing that bad. They were unlucky not to draw with us, and got a point with 10 men at Villa. People also seem to be overlooking the fact we aren't playing well at all. Lucky against Wigan and created virtually nothing in 2 games with Reading and City.
  • Yeah, what concerns me is we look the worst out of the teams down there at the moment.

totally agree stu and chris ..... come on let's have a flukey win at everton!!!

  • The one thing we haven't factored in yet:

That final match of the season is when teams produce the unlikely result.

A few seasons ago, Coventry and Wimbledon winning at Spurs, and Bradford stayed up with a win against someone they had no 'right' to beat. And they'll be several others that you may be able to bring to mind.

Premier League history is littered with unexpected last day wins from teams who made that last desperate gargantuan step to safety.
  • Certainly we don't look worse than Fulham or Sheff Utd. And whilst we're not letting goals in we can always nick something like at Pompey.
I do worry though that if the opposition score first, how likely are we to come back.
  • [cite]Posted By: Stu of SE7[/cite]Yeah, what concerns me is we look the worst out of the teams down there at the moment.

yet we're out of the relegation zone, undefeated in six games and kept a clean sheet 4 games on the trot.

    Not that bad is it?

I know if someone had said three months ago we would be in this position i would have laughed them out of town...
  • WSS, I'm not knocking it at all, we are getting results whilst playing poorly, I think we have the best team out of those around us, they just need perform.

I'm not a negative person at all, I also think we're gonna stay up, we just need a few individuals to take their fingers out.

Sign of a good team! ;-)
  • We can always moan about the negatives and consider that our relegation rivals have more chance of safety than us.

    But do they?

Like us they're in the relegation dogfight for a reason. They have their own frailties and weaknesses, just like us.

It's unlikely to be the quality of their play that wins them points.

The teams with the best organisation and strongest mindset are the teams likely to survive.
