It illustrates one of our issues I suppose - we also should have had a few but refs don't give them against us. But all in all, we don't get enough people in the box and we don't have the pace to get behind defences and we don't have the players to go past opponents with skill. I think you need these to get your fair share of pens.
From the penalties I've seen given against us, it would appear refs have been told to only give one when it's a very obvious foul by a player in a red shirt. We don't play against teams wearing red at The Valley, ergo no penalties.
You don't need to be ultra skillful to win a penalty. Just attack a defender with pace inside the box. The defender is always at risk of mistiming the tackle. We have a number of players capable of doing this, but they need to pick up the ball outside the box, then make a positive run with the ball into the box. Our problem is none of our players every try to do this. It's one of those things that should be practiced over and over again on the training pitch.
I think Ipswich away was the most blatant pen not given to us this year. Absolutely shocking decision and Cameron Stewart got booked for diving as well!

Reading away was a shocker as well. Should have had one there as well.
The reason we don't get many penalties is because we don't play the right football to win penalties. Lumping it up to the strikers doesn't win penalties you only have to watch Luis Suarez run at defences to see the number of times he causes them to panic and win so many genuine penalties, they could have had another 2 or 3 more at Old Trafford?
The trouble is when we get the ball at our feet at the edge of the penalty box we pass it sideways or backwards, we don't run at defenders and as such don't win any penalties.

Hopefully we are due one or two in the last four games.
