I've had it with Marcus Bent

edited April 2007 in General Charlton
Waste of space - made so much money from transfers, and he's very, very average (and that's being kind...)
Another hamstring injury - leaves us very short of cover up front now.

    There's always Super Kev...

Before the game the word was that Pardew had a full team to select from (other than Andy Reid), I guess that means JFH will return.

To be fair it's not necessarily his fault that he has hamstring problems, perhaps with a lack of cover/alternative options he has been rushed back too quickly.

Mmmm...and doesn't he let everyone know it. Has he ever been fit since we signed him?
  • Sorry, new on here and haven't got hang of this quoting lark.

By the way, although I'm having a bit of a go at MB because I'm frustrated after tonight's game, I don't think we should be slagging off players right now, so I'd better stop.
  • LOL, welcome to the board Mr W.

Have you just given yourself a telling off ??? :-)
  • Yes. Now you need to teach me how to do the quoting, as otherwise I'll have to ask the Mrs.
  • Once you've clicked on quote, there is a line underneath titled 'Format comments as' with three options. If you are quoting, make sure you are clicked on BBCode.

If another time you wish to post a link to a website, make sure its clicked on Text.
  • jimmy was sitting next to me in the lower west and said he was still struggling with his own hamstring

btw absolute legend - kicked every ball from the stands, screaming and out of his seat and even joined in berating poll

Does this work? Sounds a bit complicated to me! Thanks for the help.
  • Hey- it does.

ISAW, you were sitting next to the legendary JF HasselLump .....and he really is on our side - you've seen it with your own eyes?

He must be Charlton through and through now, enough to earn a new contract.

  • Yes, at least MB makes it onto the pitch and occasionally runs after the ball...
  • honestly i couldn't believe how much he cared, he wouldn't have looked out of place in the north upper - if only he cared as much on the pitch!
  • I wonder, now JFH is one of us, if he'll be on the free coaches to Blackburn?

Watching from the stands at Ewood Park, he'll get all excited. You can hear it, can't you: "JFH you useless lump, SIDDARN!"
  • Agreed about Marcus Bent, he offers us almost nothing up front. I honestly think it would be worth giving Lisbie a crack as the front runner with Darren Bent a bit deeper and linking the play.
  • lisbie is absolute cack....should have brought Romm on with 20 mins to go....at least he has pace.....
  • [cite]Posted By: ct_addick[/cite]lisbie is absolute cack....should have brought Romm on with 20 mins to go....at least he has pace.....

Lisbie won a few in the air and set up Thomas. His one error was not to attack Darren Bent's cross. I don't think Lisbie is much slower than Romm either.
  • Lisbie may not be great but what are the alternatives right now?

    JFH is fat and injured.

Marcus Bent is injured (again) and even when fit offers little. He does not hold it up, is average in the air and does not link play well.

ZZ is a definite option but, bearing in mind we need to WIN some games, I would have ZZ in centre-mid with Song and get him to link the play up and get the ball down and out to the wings.

Also, and I know this is controversial, but maybe Rommedahl could be worth another look? Thomas was abysmal again tonight, no end product at all, exactly the same as at City.

I just feel Lisbie could do a job playing on the last defender and take some pressure of Darren. Playing Lisbie's pace would allow Darren to drop a bit deeper and link the play (which he does very well, incidentally) and then come into the box with some late runs. At the moment, Darren is getting isolated far too much and this is a waste of a great player.

My team for the rest of the season....

    Carson
    Young - Elk - Diawara - Thatcher
    Ambrose - ZZ - Song - Rommedahl
    D. Bent - Lisbie

We need goals people and, lets be honest, in the Newcastle, Wigan, Man City and Reading games we have scored only three goals, two of which were penalties and the other from a free-kick. Lisbie could not be any worse than Marcus or JFH and at least has the pace to create for others.

Difficult to see from the TV but, after all the injuries, does Lisbie still have the pace that has kept him in the squad for the past God knows how many years?

Doubt we'll ever see whether he does becaause he's very unlikely to be bothered enough to run at full speed..

Did you not see that late corner that Reading had, where Lisbie was left up on the halfway line? He spotted that nobody was marking the man for the short corner and sprinted back to close him down and make a great tackle. That was a great spot and sprint, and may have saved us a point. He has still got pace.

He didn't spot it at all, he was aimlessly wandering about in the centre circle until Pards screamed at him to get back and cut out the short corner.....the bloke is a complete and utter waste of space !!
  • Yeah, but the thing is Pete that Lisbie may be less of a waste of space than JFH and Marcus Bent, who are both injured anyway.

We have four senior forwards at the club and now only two are fit, of which he is one.

ZZ is badly needed in center-midfield with Song for his spark that he provides and Lisbie can take some weight off Darren.

    Desperate times....
  • is Marcus Bent injured though - i get the distinct feeling when he is up against a big centre half he doesn't fancy it.

that's the 3rd time this year he has gone off in the first half --- if he has a hamstring injury he wouldn't recover as quickly as he does I am not having it.
  • According to TV it's the other hamstring this time. Sounds more like a back problem - kind of thing that's put Andy Reid out for the season.

I think you'll find Marcus hasn't been properly fit since Christmas.

It's the same old hamstring thing, time and time again, like Reidy's.
I bet Pards rests him for a couple of games, injects him up to the eyeballs (probably with sedative) and sends him back into the fray.

Now Herman, I think it's touch and go whether we see him again this season.
  • personally I think ZZ is much better playing just off D Bent with Holland and Song in the middle..
  • You might be right Eltham but when he was in the middle of the park last night I thought ZZ brought a real "snap" to our play, very good in the tackle, breaks forward and runs really strong. Reminded me of the days of Bowyer and then Parker when our midfield had some real bite to it.

Song is more of a ball-player, not really a snappy tackler, but ZZ looks like he's well up for a tackle and can really surge through the middle....

he looked fine in the pics yesterday of him with danielle lloyd, taken just a few hours after limping off!!
  • Pretty clear where his priorities lie!
  • i'm afraid i make him right as long as he's got earplugs in and doesn't have to listen to that scouse accent
