Can't really add much to what has already been said, RIP to your grandad and condolences to your family. It is very special to have such shared memories, and also to be very happy in the knowledge that you would have given your grandad such pleasure over the years by going to the games with his son and grandson. Such family bonds and memories are priceless.
I know it is a complete pain in the ar@e! Sometimes being a Charlton fan and we sometimes question why we do it. Every so often there is a game/result that defines why we do. For me Charlton were my local team and I was just happy going to football with my brother (robroy) Dad and Grandad....that is what defined my Charlton experience. I don't get to see Charlton that often anymore, but when I do it will be sad that I don't get to do this with my Grandad anymore.
It's times like this that makes you really think. We all shout, swear, sometimes abuse our players our team (especially this season) but all of us on here will still be CAFC supporters next season whatever happens! As someone once said "It's only a game!" Family IS the most important thing in our lives. I will raise a glass for all the 'grandads' and others that are no longer with us!! later on today! Sorry to be s bit morbid but this post has really touched me.......
I got misty-eyed reading through this thread. So many touching posts and remind me of my own Grandma who passed away six years ago... Sincerely sorry for your loss Robroy. May your Grandad rest in peace.
Sorry for your sad times. Football is a great bonding event that binds us together through the tough times in life. Whatever goes on in our lives, there will always be a Charlton. My dad and me don't always really talk that much, but whenever we do it's usually about football Love you Dad.
Reading this helped me make a decision earlier. Currently sitting next to my 5 year old son Jacob who is at his first game today. Seemed the right time knowing that there are addicks who can't be there.
A really good family bond is the most important and it sounds as though your relationship with Grandad was first class.Maybe he can have a word with the Big Man and work a few points and goals for his beloved team! Sincere condolences to you and your family.
robroy, just thought i'd let you know, that I (and probably many others) thought of your Granddad when Red,red Robin was being played yesterday.
Thank you guys so much for the nice words. The only question now is do we have Valley Floyd road or red red robin at the funeral? The vicar is a charlton fan and is from charlton so that ticks all boxes
My Grandad took me to Charlton when I was a boy and he was a massive influence on me. When we do something good, I always think about him with a smile. Sorry for your loss - he'll always be part of you.
