He's a full back, better to be positionally secure and able to tackle cleanly than cross well. The only reason we're bothered about that at the mo is the standard of crossing of the players in front of him

Confident and good performance, needs to work on his crossing though as some were very poor but don't blame him, there's no one looking for the ball in the box . Played better than most on the pitch

Very true and I agree which is why I said he did very well.
However our tactics rely on two full backs that act as wide midfielders when attacking so it is important.
Looking @ Fox today its a shame that Evina kept him out of the backup slot for so long..
With Evina (or his Agent.. cant remember who) messing around with the Contract in the summer and refusing to go Spain it would have been a perfect opportunity to start blooding Fox into the First-Team like with Cousins, unless of course it was the loan move to Notts County that made him (similar to the Norwich move for Parker)
I have liked him ever since seeing him play for the Youth team a couple of years ago.
It is not hindsight , but I posted on here about him V Evina last summer and suggested we let Evina go .I do think Powell was too loyal to Ceddy after his below par displays against Birmingham and Doncaster.
That said, I do agree that the Notts County loan does seemed to have helped Fox . He played 7 games for them in the busy Xmas period and appears to have acquitted himself well, this meant he has some league experience .He played well today.
As an aside, assuming Evina doesn't play, as I think we all suspect, then it puts all of the fuss about his contract negotiations last summer into perspective. It now appears that the money spent on the contract eventually agreed was largely wasted.
The same might be said of Gower and Hughes and even Holland and Green, though it may have been impossible to offload the latter. It makes me wonder whether we could have "wheeled and dealed" more effectively last summer. Could the money saved on these players have then been spent on just one or two players who would have actually improved the squad? I don't know, but given that money was very tight, the budget allocated to them certainly didn't help.
So many of the current squad were signed in 2011 on three year deals and there was no way of knowing which ones would prove a success. In hindsight, collectively they did their job in the first and second season but there was no shake up last summer and the Academy players were just too young to bridge the gap.
I expect Evina and some of the others will be gone this summer and we all saw Fox today - let's hope he signs up for the future. Along with Hamer, Morrison, Dervite and Poyet.
Unfortunately last summer the board decided to dispense with Fuller and bring in the likes of Sordell and Church - perhaps the new owner can reverse that trend and as you suggest Mundell "save money on players while spending on one or two who actually improve the squad". Perhaps there are eight or nine players leaving who we just won't miss.
I have watched three championship matches today (two on Sky) and there was a pattern which showed me that the gap into the top half of the division is NOT insurmountable. If the next set of Academy players are not old enough/good enough then Duchatelet and others need to plug the gaps. Last summer I think the dilemma was that they didn't know whether academy graduates like Cousins would hold their own so the likes of Gower were an insurance option...
But next season we may have two decent players aged 26 or under in every position? Wiggins and Fox; Solly and Wilson, Hamer and Pope, Lennon, Dervite and Morrison in central defence, and central midfield looks good... then you get to the forwards and wingers
Derby and Burnley on TV tonight are NOT big spenders and yet their forward play is clinical compared to ours. I sincerely hope that Duchatelet, Meire and Riga(?) make the most of what is in place already and secure the missing parts to take CAFC back into the top half of the table and help us forget this season asap.

Suspect we may be "furiously agreeing" with each other here SELR :-)
Powell signed a squad to get us out of league 1 which he did very effectively. The plan then was to further strengthen in the Championship which never really happened other than Wilson and Fuller perhaps.
However the money ran out and long term injuries to key players have not helped. We are therefore relying on our league 1 squad augmented by the odd loan and promising youngsters.
Simon Church effectively replaced Wright- Phillips, Fuller and Haynes. Reza has replaced Kermorgant.
Played very well, not sold yet on his crossing though.
He did have a solid game at the back and the fact he got in a number of crosses is a bonus. You never know perhaps if the forwards get to realise that the ball might be launched into the penalty area they might try to get on the end of it! At least he seemed to understand that you don't have to actually get past a full back to whip an early cross in. (In the style of Beckham who never seemed to actually get past his marker). That's a skill neither Harriott nor Green seem to possess.

That tells you all you need to know.
Just bad bruising? Would like to know!
