Roadworks on way to Brighton

I've been told there are some serious roadworks going on on the m23 and they are likely to cause delay. We aren't leaving until about 12.45 from New Eltham - by car - will we make it? How long does the park and ride thing take and is that the quickest option if going by car?

  • Drove down from Maidstone last night to see the Manic Street Preachers.
Biggest issue for us was the 50mph restrictions on the M25. There were some 40mph roadworks on M23 but they seemed to end fairly quickly.
Leaving at 5.30pm we got down to the sea front in about 1hr 20mins.
Not sure uf that really helps or not.
We're leaving about 9am Sat and parking in Lewes.
  • According to the Traffic England web site, there's the usual long-running J5 to J7 roadworks on the M25 which are likely to add 10 mins. to your journey time. Plus road works on the A23 south of the M23 which could add another 10 mins.
I understand the most popular park & ride site is full by 1:30pm, so I'd leave much earlier if I were you.
  • We were in Brighton earlier this week. Spped restrictions on the M23 not really much of a problem. As stated above, the M25 was more of a pain.
  • thanks - no option to leave earlier - if park and ride full by 1.30, what is the alternative?

    yellow line?
    car park?
    turn round and go home?
drive somewhere else and get a train?
drive somewhere else and get a bus?
curse the place, have a tantrum and write to Esther rantzen?
  • You need to ask Brighton eye on the other thread. He mentions a six lane highway or something.
  • Drove to Brighton for a business meeting from Dartford three weeks ago. Parked in the NCP one street up from the beach. I was dawdling and it took an hour and twenty minutes although I had an unusually clear run on the m25. The roadworks were standard 50mph stuff and didn't last very long. All of that said, we are into the Easter holiday period so they might up the ante a bit on roadworks.

Park somewhere like anerley and train it from there.
  • I live next to the roadworks-ish
You have nothing to worry about. Missus drives through them everyday, just a 40mph limit with average speed cameras
  • Drive to Brighton from Medway everyday for work. The M25 will be a bigger problem than the M23 but that should still be ok at that time of day on a Saturday. The M23 roadworks last about 6 miles and are an average 40mph (cameras do work!!), wont add 5 mins to your journey.

Cant make the game Saturday due to a family wedding, but I will be driving to Brighton and back on Saturday, homeward journey being about 10am. If there is any major problems likely to cause anybody any delay I'll post on here.
