That can't be Church, he 's actually managed to jump in the air...
  • I think most of us will grudgingly accept limited players giving it their utmost but did he even do that on Saturday? I hate to say it but rotation or not, I genuinely don't want to see him again this season. It was like playing with ten men when you've had to sacrifice the centre forward after a sending off. More than once he appealed for fouls without making a challenge / getting off the ground. Hurts me to slag off a player especially in the current circumstances, but I've run out of patience. If you're not good enough, at least play to your absolute maximum.
  • Can't fault his workrate, but all the strikers need to accept their strike rate is appalling and frankly they should be embarassed to call themselves strikers. I don't mind Church playing out wide as he can pass, he just can't shoot.

I am being hopeful that Riga thought best to rest Reza, Obika and Sordell for Tuesday. Reza at least had a couple of genuine attempts when he came on.

That's how I felt. I rarely slag a player off, and tend to see more positives than most (naively). But Church... well, he went too far on Saturday. THAT offside. It was so pathetic I thought it might make the highlights.
  • firing us to safety would require some sort of shot power would it not?
  • he'd struggle to 'fire' a water pistol !, please don't let him near the side again this season....he's used up all his lives

  • Firstly I am astonished they got a photo of him off the ground - a real collectors item.

Secondly - I don't want to see him in the first team again.

I am possibly the most positive of Charlton fans and try hard to see the good in everyone that wears the shirt but I am now officially bored of Church. HE offers nothing. Saturday was the ideal opportunity to show Reading what a mistake they made in letting him go and the truth is they are probably pissing themselves after Saturday.

He has no real pace - just a busy run that looks like he is fast.
He cannot jump - and when he does he actually gets shorter.
At the weekend when breaking with Reza - he pointed to where to play the ball (which Reza did) but ran the other way.
He ambled back onside and cocked up our only real opportunity to carve them open
He broke and crossed to nobody - because he doesn't have a clue. He plays a ball into the box just to get rid of the ball.

I've seen enough. He is rubbish.

Obika, Sordell, Reza, AA, Pigott - anyone but Spongefoot please
  • I think It is a bit too easy to blame one player – when other strikers clearly have difficulty scoring too. The issues were plan on Saturday – apart from too many players looking tired – not enough red shirts got themselves into their opponent's box – we were always outnumbered and so not a lot of point crossing. Harriot was incredibly disappointing, we need him to be more direct and take players on but he does a nice flick then passes it – cop out football – let somebody else do it – it is Harriot’s job to try and open opponents up. Then when we do break, where are the players busting a gut to support? But I suppose it is easier to blame Church, who was miles away from being our worst player.
  • "Harriot was incredibly disappointing" - true, but he was completely out of position on the right - largely to accomodate Astrit on the left...don't think it worked.

He also had no support from anyone. What's he supposed to do when three players are on him as soon as gets the ball?
  • So Church says "It is the case now that if you get a chance then you have to take it". I know for sure I was a school kid when I worked that one out.
  • don't care who scores as long as its us
  • Pleased we managed to secure a 2 year deal for Church, hopefully means we will be able to negotiate a 10 million transfer fee to Standard Liege in the summer.

  • What's the odds on a striker scoring tomorrow in a charltom shirt?
  • ..if it comes down to a 6 pointer "who goes down" between us or Blackpool on the final day of the season for the last relegation spot, and Church is in a position to score and keep us up he is out of a job next year. If he misses he stands a chance of staying, because we won't have anyone else. So the question I have to ask you is, does he score and become a hero, thanks and goodbye, or does he miss and a season of well-paid booing to look forward to? (Disregard the obvious, which is that he would probably miss anyway).

Would he even get himself into the position for the chance? I'm not sure. I'll be staring longingly at Ricardo Fuller at the other end of the pitch.

Zero. Not sure about Charlton though.

    sparking?

    simmering?

    smoldering?

With the company we are now using it's evens.

They clearly have no idea about football as they have Church at 6/1 most weeks.

  • Striker??? Perhaps if that's used in the context of industrial action that might be an accurate description but there have been next to no strikes into the back of the net this season, that's for sure.

If someone does find someone hiding in the squad who can actually finish, could they please post a confirmation message on CL? ;-)
  • so this is why you created the "lol" button

    Agree totally with out mate!
  • Strike rate is more important that work rate . Is he our leading goalscorer this season.?
Not sure he will get many more games but we will definitely see him again this season.
Feel sorry for the lad tbh. I wish he would get a hat trick for a confidence boost. Yeah , I know, dream on.

I feel sorry for the Church, it does not seem relevant to modern society, attendance is dwindling and there is a pervading atmosphere of decline...
