Is he that bad?

When we announced the signing of PP I was really excited. After reading and watching video clips of him, and then the training ground video, it all seems a bit 'propaganda' now?
SURELY we needed someone for now and not next season. Could this, should this money been spent on someone for NOW or why not throw him on off the bench?
He's a bloody u/21 international for Christ's sake, he must be used to a bit of 'argy bargy' surely?!?
Can he really be that much worse than what we have got?
NO ONE is scoring goals, I say throw him in at the deep end and see how he goes, if he is as good as people say then he should learn fast!!
But then again I will never know why Michael Smith never even got a chance?
It's a funny old game!!!

  • He should be at least on the bench drinking protein shakes.
  • Everything in this post is exactly my thinking and to make matters worse Piggott and Reza have had game time so surely Smith should of got his chance and Polish Pete should now.How could these two of been any worse than that what has played this season for us?!
  • Well the reports from u-21 matches he's played in have hardly been flattering
Still his wages will be cheaper than the combined salaries of Kermo and Stephens so the money utilised from their sales was used wisely
    #ridiculous
  • Apart from another three points, have we got anything to lose by giving him a go?

This is exactly my point, when was the last time we scored more than one goal in a league game? Who knows how he will respond in the first team? If he is 'pants' so what!
At least it will give some people a chance to slag off someone new for a change!

COME ON JOSE GIVE PP A CHANCE!!!

My first thought upon waking was why on earth did we but this fella, it doesn't make sense, I'm all for forward planning but if he's going to be that good next season at this rate we'll be in league one and won't be able to afford to keep him, unless we have signed him with an intention of playing in league one, its a very strange decision.
  • All this talk of him not being fit if that is the case what the hell do pro players do during the week.
  • A laughable signing. Not half the player Smith is. We would be safe now if we had played Smith/Pigott up top the whole season. I have been to most U21 home fixtures in last two years.

Bad errors from Powell in letting Smith go and his management/utilisation of Pigott. The signing of Piss Poor Pete just shows RD's scouting network is rubbish and why, if no reinforcements arrive before Thursday, it is back to Chesterfield for us next season.
  • Don't hold back Bolloxbolder, say it as you see it.

  • You can be sure of that as was Katrien at the VIP meeting.
  • I think it's simple.

    He's rubbish.
A waste of time effort and money.

If people with a better understanding of football that have the qualifications and get paid to know about football think that Church is better, then that answers that doesn't it. Close the book.

Saying "one for next season" is just delaying the matter of the fact that he's in the squad and will have to play at some point.
  • You can be sure of that as was Katrien at the VIP meeting.

Has anyone in authority at the club given any indication what is going on with Parsley Pete. Supposedly good enough to be courted by Benfica and West Ham, but no where near good enough for our non scoring forward line.
  • CW - all you are saying is give Pete a chance ?
  • i laughed when i saw those Training videos. they werent impressive, any team semi-pro and above would be training to that standard. irrelevant therefore to assess the players and didnt prove anything. as CW1 says, pure propaganda and no harm in that if it gets people excited.

reports from the u21s games are not positive for PP. all round game is weak om comparsion to Smith, fairly obvious comparison as they play identical roles.

reza is not currently suited to english football. not at all.

neither of these 2 fellas are going to score the goals we need to survive
  • Spending money on this sort of guy 'for the future' while we all (fans watching our first team and caring for our first team) fork shed loads out on away days and season tickets is exactly the thing I don't like about this regime. He is for the future, and quite obviously not cut for the bill strength wise, that money could have been spent on urgent matters this season keeping us up. I reckon he's here to train, bulk up, get a few games and hopefully (for RD) move on at a profit. You can get some absolute gems of players for the sort of price we paid for this guy, League One players too that can easily make the step up to Championship. We are signing unfit, unready, unexperienced players (and management team in the country - no knowledge of other teams etc.), during one of the most crucial times at our club. Much more worrying signs than their are good with his signings/loans to us, MUCH.
  • Bought for the network with player sales from Charlton
  • He's obviously got one hell of a good agent with impressive networking skills
  • I wonder if anyone from the club has actually thought to contact Benfica to verify their interest in signing him. Seemed very odd to me that he turned them down because they didn't offer him a house and a car.

That was pretty obvious to me at the time. I think I likened it to a Sunday morning kick around down the park.

  • Probably still teaching him not to shoot if he's near the goal and that if we have the ball it must always be passed to somebody to lose it...
  • Where can these comical videos be seen?

Big question marks against either of those two making it at championship level to be fair

I agree with this .. Smith and Pigott were never given a chance by an over timid management

I agree smith yes but I disagree about pigott he went on loan to a very poor league one side in the shape of the pikes but he has only scored one or two goals in how ever many games and is barely their bench. every pikes fan I no was saying how poor hes been this for them and the only reason they kept him was due to injuries. personally I think he's not quite ready for the standard of championship football but other than that I completely agree with what you are say
  • Agree, Pigott has had his chance this season and not yet up to it. As for Smith, Powell's mistake was letting him go out on loan at the beginning of the season. Quite obvious he had no say in transfer decisions in January.
  • Sorry, thought this article was about Simon Church!
  • Asking with the wonderful benefit of hindsight - could the 600k we allegedly spent on the Pole have been better spent towards securing at least a contract for Poyet to maximise our return on him when he leaves, whilst retaining Smith?

Seems a very poor piece of business and to me the potential downfall of this player laundering scheme we are embroiled in - i would trust an experienced pro like Powell over any guy sitting in an office in Brussels shuffling players around with no idea of how they are going to fit into a highly physical, competitive league like The Championship - the best you can hope for is they learn from these mistakes....
