Jose Riga likes offensive football despite three clean sheets

  • These Powell against Riga arguments are going down a cul de sac. Somebody wake me up when they hit the brick wall please.
  • Notts Forest at home was light years ahead of anything we've done in the last three games. Doncaster, Leicester and Wigan other good examples from this season (can't comment on Brighton or QPR as wasn't there) plus played well for the last 10 or so games last season, so not fair to say we've always just lumped it forward. Let's just enjoy the current football, which on the whole has been good, whether or not it has been better than other recent games under the previous management.

Grabbing at straws comes to mind here...
  • The Sheff United game was like rewinding to the Parky era

I think you mean clutching at straws... and you're probably right. My point really is that we HAVE played well under Powell, not just a stream of long balls to Yann as was said earlier in this thread. Anyway, this debate has been done to death on the Powell's football is terrible thread so I'll leave it alone.
  • VG you could not have summed it up better that's exactly what it was like
  • Ironic that Powell was often slated as too defensive for bringing on a certain player late on.

    It was Dervitte : - )

    Move on

  • one thing you can't ague with is the fact that Jose Riga has made positive substitutions wherever possible & if CP had been in charge on Tuesday night we would have been defending for our lives towards the end and defenders would have been brought on for strikers/midfielders to defend out the last 10 mins.

I'm not saying we wouldn't have won it or even that we would have lost it, but simply it is refreshing to see a different mindset.

Well I'll argue it , in the QPR match SCP made two substitutes in the 64th min AA on for Danny Green and Tudgay on for Gooch and 89th minute Harriott on for Church
    So no defenders there #justsaying
We were chasing the game at that point, any manager would put on attackers. Fact is powell would never have made a first half sub (IMO changed the game) and never have gone two up top at millwall with 20 minutes to go
  • Harriott got taken off because he was injured, been mentioned plenty of times. Don't really get why Qpr and Bournemouth are different. Both games we were drawing, both games the manager tried to change things to get a winner. Argh, getting drawn into this again!
  • "Jose Riga likes offensive football despite three clean sheets" Doesn't make any sense. You can play fantastic attacking football and keep clean sheets. That's the idea isn't it?
