Not saying we are out the woods yet and I was a big CP fan. CP would of shut up shop and nicked the point. Jose went 3 up top and nicked 3. That's the difference !
So, when we scored winners in the dying embers of a match under CP, it was despite the fact he was shutting up shop then?
Well I take your point also but the fact remains that one of the biggest criticisms of CP in recent times was that his tactics were very negative. I agree with the OP.
I'm just making the point that perhaps having Obika available to come in off the bench and provide an option that Chris Powell didn't have available to him (not through lack of trying) made the difference.
To suggest that, in retrospect, Powell made all the wrong decisions and Riga has the golden touch is just not true.
From what I can make out this was very similar to the QPR game with us struggling to make chances from open play and then nicking it late on from a set-play.
There is such a fine line between success and failure at this level, if Bournemouth had scored with one of their chances and nicked it 1-0 then it would be all doom and gloom.
Truth be told Riga is probably not doing all that much different to Chris Powell, he is basically trying to squeeze every last drop out of an under-resourced squad that will do very well to stay up no matter who was in charge.
I'd say he kept the 4-5-1 but with the Sordell over on the right and Obika on the left, they can essentially be strikers while Church did the donkey work chasing about. The goal makes all the difference, and without sounding mean to Harriot as he's a great player, Obika was able to do a lot more when he came on for injured Harriot, that one wasn't tactical. Can't fault it except Danny Green starting, terrible player

This is just it. For so long we were told that nobody in the world of football could do a better job with these players than Powell. Not saying that everything is down to Riga, but maybe by the end of the year Powells job may not look quite as miraculous.

Ooh, I'd say you were spinning the argument incredibly there. I don't recall anyone saying that "nobody" could do a better job with these players, just disagreeing with the assertion that "anybody" could.
Both sides of this petty and, quite frankly, tiresome, debate are as bad as each other.
If one lot didn't begin with their ill thought out (and often flawed) little "I told you so", "He did it with Powell's men though" or "Riga knew not to sit back and carried on fighting" then the other bunch wouldn't fight back and add fuel to the fire.
In the past week I've generally avoided these discussions as they're just bloody tedious and seem to bring out some right muppets who can't actually see facts beyond those that underline their own perceived version of events.
I said last week that SE7 had lost a little magic when Powell emptied out his desk and drove out of Sparrows Lane, and I stick by that. Yet I don't need to constantly remind everyone of what they already know, nor do I need to post on topics just to "get it out there" that my opinion is the one true opinion. The sad fact of the matter is, it's everywhere on these forums at the moment. My sole posting of late has seemed to consist of attempts at being funny and off-topic nonsense; because I don't really want to get caught up in the actual topic that we're all here to talk about - it all devolves in to a completely different topic all together.
Does that mean I care less? I don't think so, I think I'm just mature enough not to have to jump up and down for attention at every opportunity and see who wants to massage my ego over an internet forum.
This forum is so so so much more than most others; I've posted about employment issues, about health issues and more. Compared to some I've still been shy, whereas others feel comfortable sharing every intimate aspect of their life. Each time people do these I'm genuinely surprised at how decent a bunch you can all be, and how much compassion is shown on here. At the moment though? It seems like some of you just want an excuse to try and initiate an argument about something which, to be quite frank, doesn't matter anymore, doesn't achieve anything and doesn't bother taking in to account the full picture.
Why did CP ever play Thuram when he isn't ready yet, whilst the Thunderbird Puppet Riga doesnt play him? I'm confused.
Because Hamer was still out injured and hadn't even mustered up game time with the U21s yet, and Alnwick had been shrewdly sent to Leyton Orient before being released within a week due to unfortunate (and very sad) family circumstances.
@LuckyReds, I agree with every word you have said there. I rarely get drawn into these things myself, but when you see blatant disregard for logic... and ... well, I'll leave it there.

And maybe that was what Powell and RD couldn't see eye to eye on. Maybe thuram was sent to test Powell with RD knowing he was a liability all along...
Decided to sit in a quiet corner of my shed and listen to the remaining games
withon my tranny.Wake me up when we change our shirts to anything like these..

We just need to get out of this mess, first and foremost.
