  • A true cafc legend.

Much as I like Carl, I think perhaps 'legend' is a tad over-enthusiastic. Cult hero, certainly. Please, not jokes about 'cu*t hero'.
  • Early in his career, a newspaper article in, I think, The Guardian, made a comment about him being a good 'park' player, seeing as he had scored solely at grounds with 'Park' in the name - St James's Park, Upton Park, etc.
  • He was great at defending corners.
Not so good when we had the corner though.

Very true. Lennie constantly defended him, explaining that he had to "learn in public" due to our financial position at the time. I believe during his early years, admittedly partly because he made a lot of sub cameos, he had stats of 3 in 90! For that alone his cult status is assured.

  • The Bosman ruling was made in December 1995, Carlo left in Jan 1998.

There was something different still then though. Carlo was definitely on a week-to-week but we still got cash for him, I'm almost certain.

    Wonder what that was then?
  • I'll never forget his goal in the fa cup game up at old Trafford. May have lost that game. But will never forget the power of the celebration from our fans.
  • At the risk of repeating myself he will always be my favourite Charlton player of all time.
  • I always thoughthe was OK despite his lack of goals but let's not rewite history. Most Charlton fans at the time thought he was awful.
  • Most Charlton fans at the time were wrong ;-)

    We're still all wronguns.

Was that the match went the Derby fans started gobbing from the stand above , and chucked coins at us?
  • His goal against Southend at Roots Hall. It was like time stood still as he dillied dallied before slotting it away.
  • The hat trick against Ipswich that he conveniently saved for the week I was on holiday during the time I hardly ever missed a game, home or away...

NSS still talks about how much that hurt to this day.
  • Chris Parkes is going to look up the details of the transfer when he gets a chance, so we can solve the mystery of the fee...
  • when you think of some of the money grabbing tossers we have had since carlo . The thing was he always tried and never hid------saw him geta hatrick at Ipswich .
