Ebbsfleet - garden city.

George Osborne on the tele now announcing Ebbsfleet as the site of his garden city. Lots of potential fans for us in the future or won't make a blind bit of difference?

  • West ham moving to stratford, ebbsfleet to statford is 10 mins... The hamsters Tory conspiracy thickens.
  • most fans moving house and/or location do not change their club allegiance .. Ebbsfleet will attract people from all over the UK, I can't see many becoming Addicks overnight
  • Ebbsfleet was an astute acquisition by KEH Holdings. Peter Varney is a smart bloke. There is a lot of potential for growth there.
  • I think this was on the cards one way or another for a long time - It's why the local Club changed its name to Ebbsfleet (in line with the Station) that's why rich Arabs and Varney brought the Club. I think it is their intention to attract their new resident to Ebbsfleet.

I think that hey will make a go of it as well!

  • Can the roads around there cope with a population increase?

Probably not as they are. There are also plans for a new bridge ( to the South of Gravesend) and the new Universal Resort , which looks like it is going to happen and will be huge.

The whole area gridlocks already with an accident or two anyway and when the sales are on at Bluewater ( Wife's birthday is Dec 27th so it has become and annual pilgrimage). My in laws used to live in Stone and were really glad to lose the traffic when they moved.

I Live in Greenhithe, most locals steer clear of Bluewater at Christmas, I also work in Crossways down the road, has taken me over an hour to get home due to accidents on the A2/M25, its only 1.3 miles away. (Yes I do walk sometimes)

That might be because the local areas have their own highway code though . Get in the left lane to turn right at roundabouts and in the right to turn left (or so it seems)

LOL...totally agree, or no indicating before turning, so your sat waiting thinking they are going straight on, mcdonalds roundabout especially, lost count amount of times people have tried to cut me up from the left hand only turn towards Dartford, because they cant be arsed to queue in the middle lane when heading towards asda/Greenhithe station from bluewater direction. I'm in the works van, they can hit me if they want, no loss or inconvenience to me, and they would be automatically at fault.
  • Funny enough my attitude when I'm in the works van is just that . When I'm in the car with the kids it's different . Coming off the northbound A2 at the Bean interchange there people always go in the left lane to turn right , I just indicate and drift across as I should , often get people hooting at me .
  • There's a real Charlton feel down at Ebbsfleet right now.

Born and bread in Greenhithe (well actually born in Livingstone hospital) spent the first nineteen years of my life in Greenhithe then lived in Gravesend, Longfield and Dartford before moving out of the area in 98. The traffic at times could be horrendous espesially when there were problems on the M25.....I don't miss it, though I will always have a soft spot for the area.

Little known fact: They had to put "United" at the end of their name as I had beat them to the name of Ebbsfleet F.C by about 5 years. Mind you, it would've only cost them a couple of training balls and cones and we'd have been happy to let them take it.

Does this make me a visionary?

They couldn't cope with a decrease!

Instead of pumping more and more money into housing could the government now start sending some of its vast sums of money into a flying car network please.

Dyson's already done the blue prints.

Lets build on a known Flood Plain.

Out of the three sites earmarked I would say that only Swanscombe peninsular could be considered a flood plain and I'd agree that it's a bit foolhardy in that area. The other two sites would be fine. However, there have been plans for building along the Thames corridor which I believe have been discussed on this site some time ago with regard to potential future support.

As it stands the Gravesend area is hardly one of outstanding natural beauty and could do with a bit of livening up but the transport infrastructure really does need some sorting. Presently it's a fairly cheap area to live and if these plans take off then maybe it's a decent time to purchase in the area.

Not sure if there's any truth in it, but I was told that Bluewater shopping centre has a massive pumping station running constantly and if it were to be shut off, the whole place would be under water within 24 hrs, which wouldn't suprise me as it's situated inside an old chalk pit dug out by Blue circle cement.................
