Curbs or Powell

When Curbs left I wasn't really as involved with football as I am now. So for those that were I wondered, were you more sad when curbs left or when powell was sacked? I'm assuming Powell as the former was probably more expected? But keen to hear views.

  • When Curbs left
  • Powell. Curbs had a long time to build a legacy and left before he fell of the edge so it was a fitting end. Powell was looking like something special, Curbs 2.0 (new and improved) and was cut to fuel RD's ego and SL's team sheets
  • Interesting. As far as my opinion stretches and from what I remember. I'd say Powell purely because it felt like it was written somewhere that he would get us back up to the top and I felt hard done by that he was not given the chance.
  • Curbs. We feared it would spell the end, IT DID.
  • Given the time and support that Curbs was allowed to build his teams,
I feel that Powell would have gone on to at least emulate Curbs and build a team to hold it's own in the Prem.

After all, Powell was 'Son of Curbs'.
He learned at the Master's feet.

Exactly! Still hung up about it
  • Powell leaving, getting sacked, whatever, is, was alot more sadder. The only thing that neutralizes the sadness is that we still have a big job to do in staying up.

Curbs left at the end of the season so the appropriate "thanks curbs" messages could be put through.

  • Powell leaving was sadder. But Curbs was an amazing manager.
  • Curbs was a good manager no doubt about that. But we had long periods of nothing much then one day he clicked. He got the chance to though...Shame Powell never did.
  • Think Curbs was the better manager, although CP probably as good at the same stage of their careers. Much sadder about CPs departure because he was one of us, whereas Curbs was always a hammer at heart.

Curbs leaving affected us more than I think Powell leaving will. However, we had warning of curbs leaving it was planned and we had our chance to say bye and thanks, so Powell is sadder in that respect.
  • Time waits for no man and both played their parts in the CAFC story. However their time has gone and I prefer to look forward rather than back as exciting times are in store.

  • Interesting as they both seemed to have parted ways for the same reason. i.e. refusal to sign a new contract. Powell feels worse as its nearer in time and there was more optimism about the future of the club when curbs went. Deluded fool that I am I was even happy when we appointed Dowie
  • Powell leaving was sadder due to the nature of it. Curbs was the better manager of Charlton though.
  • Powell
  • Gutted when Curbs left. Emotional when Powell left.
  • Absolutely no contest, Curbishley

  • Powell is much better than curbs really should this be a debate insult to alan

I don't think it's about who's better but who's departure had the biggest emotional impact. I said curbs leaving affected us a lot more than Powell leaving will, but we got to say bye and thank you to curbs as we had pre warning, Powell leaving without us having that chance hit us harder emotionally but things are still raw. I think if we were asked the same question in 5 years the answer will always be Curbishley as he was a bigger part of cafc overall, I love Powell but hopefully we will move forward emotions will die down and we will get over it.
  • For some reason I was more gutted but not emotionally upset when parkie left?
Maybee because he was doing a good job we was 4 th with games in hand if I remember?
Where as Powell I was emotional over it ? But think my heart was ruling me?
Where as curbs it was a case of his time had come to a gracefully end.
  • I was shocked when Curbs was sacked and it is one of the biggest mistakes this club (and Murray in particular) has ever made and one that is directly responsible to where we find ourselves today.

Deeply upset by the Powell sacking and genuinely had a tear in my eye when I found out. A great man, player and manager who gave everything to this club and would do all over again. A disgrace to treat him in this way.

    When was Curbs sacked?????
  • Curbs took us as far as he could with the money he had...
  • Curbs wasn't sacked he wanted a break from football he thought that he had taken us to a good safe place and was leaving at the right time, him and the club thought another manager would take us to the next level (Europe) how wrong they were!
  • Curbs offered to see out his contract for another year, Murray told him he could leave immediately instead. That's as good as sacked to me.

I remember Curbs always saying "I want to be clapped out the front door rather than be booted out the back" As if he was ever going to be booted out the back door. Oh and right on cue thats where Iain"Gurning world champion" Dowie comes into it? Oh yeah and Murray gave him all our money to go on a wild shopping spree and then sacked him after 15 games!!

And then what have you got? Les bloody Reed. What a clown he was.
