Millwall v Charlton | Sat 15th March 2014 | Match Preview

It’s been a tough week.

Last weekend’s horrible performance then Powell’s sacking (coincidentally on my birthday!) was all before Jose Riga took charge against Huddersfield on Wednesday night.

A 0-0 draw wasn’t a disaster of a result but once again, the Addicks’ ineffective abilities in front of goal proved decisive.

If Riga wants to win over the fans, then Saturday’s fixture would be a perfect opportunity.

History isn’t on our side this weekend as the Addicks have only won 10 games against ‘that lot’ in their entire history (according to 11v11.com). In fact it’s been 18 years since we last beat them.

Despite all the circumstances off the pitch, a win Saturday will no doubt boost morale for the players and staff.

The Opposition

Millwall struggled to really progress with West Ham United legend Steve Lomas in charge of the club and even with new boss Ian Holloway in charge; they haven’t really made substantial progress as yet.

A goal from ex-Addick Ricardo Fuller last Tuesday meant that Millwall edged ever closer to the drop-zone. In fact, Millwall are only two points above the relegation zone and a win for Charlton would mean Ian Holloway’s side would drop into the bottom three.

The Line –Up

I think it’s safe to say that Jose’s (or Roland’s) selection on Wednesday night surprised a few people.

If it was Riga’s line-up then I think we can expect a similar side.

Once again though, the right-wing spot seems to be the problem. The experiment of Reza there didn’t seem to work, so Bradley Pritchard or Jordan Cousins may have a chance of starting there.

Polish Pete may be given a place on the bench as too might Marcus Tudgay as the duo didn’t feature at all on Wednesday night.

The truth of the matter is, that it’s a very hard call to make what the side will be, so I’ve drawn up two different sides depending on who picks them.

Jose’s side:

Hamer
Wilson Morrison Dervite Wiggins
Pritchard Poyet Jackson Harriott
Adjarevic
Sordell

Roland’s side:

Thuram
Nego Morrison Dervite Wiggins
Koc Cousins Poyet Ajdarevic
Reza Polish Pete

In all seriousness, I’d expect the first line-up to be more likely!

The Prediction

Great support from the Addicks, pointless loud MIIIIILLL chants and another bore draw. 0-0.

  • 3-3 thriller 2 for reza and a last minute equaliser for Sordell sends the 5/6ths full away end home happily and the chosen one becomes a bit more special , nice one Jose huh
  • 1-0 defeat

Locked in the ground for 45 mins

Swear I'll never go again but inevitably will when we are both in league one next season

  • hope I'm proved wrong but suspect we'll melt away to a 3-0 defeat
  • Southendaddick probably has it right ... but I feel optimistic today so 1-0 to the Addicks
  • 3-0 to the Addicks - lock in for an hour
  • Years of conditioning predicts a Spanner victory. I will go for 2-0.

    However... IF just IF

I had a dream the other night that Church scored a 90th minute winner, shame it'll probably be nothing more. Hopeful but not expectant
  • 1-0 loss, 64th minute scrappy goal
  • As I said on the player marks thread to quaote Keegan 'I'd just love it' if Sordell becomes the new John Hendry after the abuse that the Spanners heaped on him. In fact better than Hendry and to quell a few nerves marvellous Marvin needs to get a hat trick Saturday.
  • Hoping we nick it so I can have the braggin rights in the randy household for once but I wont hold my breath so ill go for 2-1 that lot with the fish lookalike getting our goal.

  • Once again there will be a remembrance piece for Jimmy Mizen and Rob Knox.
  • As of two days ago, there were 13,000 sold in total.
  • It's Millwall. Our usual capitulation. 2 - 0
  • Last minute Charlton winner, Jose to run down the touchline sliding on his knees towards the traveling support.

In reality it will most likely be like our usual Millwall displays
  • Gave my millwall tickets away in the heat of the moment after Sundays defeat!
    Going to work instead
    Feel a bit gutted now
Just got a good feeling about this game now?
  • Would bite your hand off for a point. Not exactly a must win due to our games in hand but this is absolutely a must not lose.
  • Same old same old. 2-0 to the scum
  • Can't believe we didn't sell this out, got 0-0 written all over it.

I think the post above yours answers your question
  • Defeat - just a case of how many by...
  • charlton 0 - millwall 0
anybody know if this fixture is being televised?
  • Charlton to win a fiery derby 2-1 with each side going down to ten men. Marvellous Marvin to grab the winner with 10 minutes left, and to celebrate with an imaginary front crawl in front of the home fans.
  • think we have a chance with there Morison and Shittu and DJ Campbell all missing injured, dont thinl they have any other strikers
  • We always bottle it on the pitch in this fixture. 1-0 Millwall.

Simeon Jackson to discover his scoring boots and put the Addicks to the sword.

Seriously, if you look at who scored in that 0-2 defeat last season, they don't need good strikers to beat us.

    bloody hell that is poor.

I would be happy if we can just score this time

On Sky it has said Morrison, Campbell and Easter all doubtful and they have called back a young lad who was on loan (sorry cannot remember his name).
It has also been said that Alex Dyer picked the team on Wednesday and JR will be picking Saturdays team. Anyone who can pre-pick his team will be doing well, but I don't expect it to be much different from Hudders. Perhaps Cousins replacing Poyet, who looked tired, and someone different wide right. It must be difficult for him as he has only been here a week and according to another forum is really only here to run the academy from next season with a new head coach from next season.
