Who will do the tunnel jump when we win tonight?

  • From the East stand its not a surprise when someone jumps out as you can see up the tunnel. Yesterday from what I could see one of the 'official' folk were trying to get someone back up and looking very stressed when they couldn't. Would have been better if they'd jumped instead.

I said at time, would have even been good if one of the ball boys went in and jumped out.

Was a bit odd. Some may laugh but I guess it does demonstrate a bit that this crop maybe don't understand the Charlton traditions as much as previous sides did.

Don't forget this current bunch includes a number of homegrown players who should understand our traditions ... It includes the captain too. I sent a tweet to some of the players, not saying it will make any difference, but perhaps a few polite requests that they don't discard the tunnel jump might help.

You say about players understanding our traditions but I remember reading that even after ten years or so at the club Wagstaff didn't know that it was Burnley we beat in the FA Cup Final , they just don't love Charlton like we do :-(

Better not ask him about bursting balls then
  • Traditions with players? I know "fans" that didn't know where our nickname originated from! ;)
  • The tunnel jump is hardly a long standing tradition. Powelly started it at Coventry in the FA Cup and it continued at the next home victory.
  • If someone (say, GL) wanted to kill off the tunnel jumps, now would be the ideal time. Disappointment today and possibly against Bournemouth and by the time the new season sets in we'd have gotten used to it.

A shame if that is the case though, because it did make for an enjoyable end to a game. Perhaps it's time for something new.

The tradition of "saluting" the fans following a win was started by Kins with his fist pump to the Covered end, so it has been over ten years, I'm not sure it is a tradition, but it is something unique between Charlton fans and players and something I would be disappointed to see lost.

Its one of those things that makes me smile about supporting our club and sometimes those things are few and far between.
  • I would have liked to have seen Henderson do the tunnel jump yesterday. That penalty save from Billy Sharpe's well taken penalty was superb. It was worth turning up to the Valley just to see that.

I was really disappointed! Watt got the winner he should have done it but went in first?? his whole attitude yesterday seemed very negative to me. obviously apart from when he scored.

i hope there is nothing wrong with him.
  • 2nd half Tony Watt chased every ball down,
Scores a sublime goal and then slaps hands with the fans in the West stand,
Getting a booking for leaving the pitch.
    Is that being negative ?
  • I think a bit of reality needs to set in here, tradition or not, we are currently 10th in the league that is nothing to celebrate about, we won a game, well done but come on we ain't won the league or a cup we won a match which is what they are paid to do so maybe they understand that and realise it's nothing major to celebrate and don't wanna look like pricks
  • Were 10th that's a real achievement and yes I enjoy winning but let's not go over the top about it

Yes in a very positive way?...???

So n the last ten plus years any player who has done the tunnel jump, or fist pump when we have won is a prick ...... Nice

The reality is if they don't do it no one will walk away from the club, but it's just another little thing that made us unique that we have lost. Something that put a smile of 1,000's of people's faces, that it would be a shame to lose.
  • It's cringeworthy

  • Solly should have done it as skipper.

Igor probably would have done it had he not been injured.

Hopefully just a one off aberration.

Well done @Kap10. Did you get any response?
  • If we all stopped doing everything that other fans thought was "cringe" we might as well all move to the west stand and sit in silence.
Seems like every song, idea etc. is labelled as cringeworthy lately.

you can't force someone to do it, that is artificial + soulless.
If someone wants to do it great, if not fine.

    Don't disagree with this.
