Being 24, relatively speaking I have not been a Charlton fan for long, but when I think about being a kid and loving supporting charlton (with all the crap going completely over my head) I think Cubs, Kinsella and Murray.
Although as a 9 year old it wasnt of much relevance to me, we were a united club - fans, players, manager and chairman and that formed part of the magic I remember every time I proudly stode to my seat every other week.
15 years on I can't help but feel we were but a couple of small decisions to being back to that. Powell as the new curbs, Jacko as the new Kinsella and Murray back as Chairman. All that was needed was a new deal for Powell and RD could have been our saviour from the Slater etc rien.
Powell has now been sacked and I can't help but feel we are agian losing our Charlton identity we were so close to regaining. I realise we are bottom of the league and Powell has made some strange decisions this season, but its just too late for riga to keep us up (much as i dont think Powell would have kept us up from this position either). But Powell has a proven record in League 1 and with a bit of investment this summer - and the fans behind him as they always would have been - he could have done the same. Give him the first 10 games of next season and if we were still poor then bring riga in with 3/4 of the season to turn it around.
At the end of the day I am a Charlton fan, not a Powell fan, although I can't help but feel the two have been intrinsically linked for the past few years.
I will support the club and the palyers100% to the end. The old boys and the leige boys because at the end of the day they are just playing for the club they are contracted to. I will also back the new man and the owner tonight but on that front I will turn faster than a bottle of milk on a hot Qatari day beause if we do end up in league 1 with a manager none of us wanted in the first place that will be one mans fault and one man only...and if that means im not a fan you can take a look at my red card/season ticket purchase history (much like the many others on here rightly blasting the sacking of Powell).
