The official positivity thread - post Chris Powell

I was in a meeting all day yesterday so a bit out of the loop - I come out and the world seems to have fallen out of a lot of peoples arses.

Whilst I am a fan of Chris Powell and all he stands for I think maybe a change will do us good. The timing may not be ideal but time will tell on that score.

I am now cautiously optimistic for the future as we may see a change in direction with the way the team plays. Maybe a little more freedom, maybe a few more goals, maybe more entertainment, maybe a revolution - or maybe it could all go to shit. Time will tell. Whilst the players and staff were pretty quiet on twitter yesterday - the Sky footage seemed to show them fairly relaxed. At least one of the staff stated Jose Riga seemed a very nice bloke and spoke very good english.

Some of the threads and comments I have read are more than a little shameful to be honest. Some a bit OTT. Some plain daft. Some well thought out and considered. Isn't that what this is all about? - a game of opinions Maybe - but the new gaffer is the new gaffer and getting on his back isn't going to help in the slightest. Same for the players - whoever they may be. I dare say there will be a few boos tonight, a few chants for SCP and probably a few other songs but I really hope the players respond professionally, we as fans play our part and Huddersfield don't know what has hit them.

As for the club - well, maybe we are a victim of our own success. I'm referring to Valley Gold and our youth team. Our academy is clearly highly regarded but this new fella has worked at Aspire and AC Milan's academies. Thats some pretty good credentials. The fact Roland has gone on record stating we are seeking Cat 1 status means this fella might be excellent for the younger players in the squad and may take a different role in the summer within the academy. Again time will tell but it certainly seems our facilities and youth setup is a huge attraction and potentially a huge asset for the owner.

So maybe the future is bright. Maybe very bright. And now we wait and see.

Thanks for everything Chris, Alex and Damien and good luck in your respective futures.
Welcome to the club Jose and Karel - don't take it personally tonight but you are unlikely to get the "open arms" treatment
As for Roland - fair play - you've got balls!

  • Great Post Swis, good to hear Riga speaks good English as well.
  • I'm kind of with you, however I won't be certain until after this weekend. Best of luck to those gone, Welcome and good luck to the new crew, led by Jose Riga and Karel what'sername.
  • Most comments on here after sunday were that we were going down for sure. We needed a change and who knows it might just work
  • Hopefully, when the dust has settled, everyone will understand the need to be positive and think forward, not backward. Good luck to those who have gone, but heres to a bright future.
  • I agree with your sentiments, Swisdom, but I fear you're about to be accused of :

    a) being blinkered
    b) not being able to smell the coffee
    c) not caring about the club's identity
    d) being easily led
    e) not realising that it's hard to get out of League 1

  • Sadly, something had to be done. Being bottom with the fewest goals scored in the league, would have lead to the dismissal of any other manager in any league without too many questions beings asked by fans. CP is a very special man which has made it an extremely bitter pill for anyone to swallow.
  • quality post Swis
  • Ah, a thread of serenity and common sense to shelter from the hysteria/chaos elsewhere, I dont believe that RD has skinned CAFC alive and sold our soul to the devil. The only way he will see a return on his investment is for CAFC to be more successful than we currently are, not being a feeder club for a small team in Belgium.

We have to move forward now, thanks CP, you did a good job early on, but it is time to look ahead.

Good luck Jose, you had a good start last night without us playing, maybe he is a lucky manager/coach.
  • Onwards an upwards. Even though we all kinda expected it.. It was still a shock given last weeks contract talks. The majority of people respected others opinions which is great, I don't see anyone being right or wrong... Is a bit egotistical to lambast others for daring to think differently.

Long 6 weeks ahead, but with the support of us fans we have a great chance of staying up

  • I'm firmly in the "don't know what the final out come will be, but am prepared to give things a chance to work" camp.

Sadly I think Jose has been hung before a ball has been kicked.

  • Do I like the way RD has gone about this? No. Do I like the timing? No. BUT it was clear from the beginning that this more European style system was what he wanted, and what the owner wants, he gets. I do wish he had found some compromise with CP but it was only going to end the way it has. Yes Man, No Man, Or Maybe Man It's Like Your Opinion, Dude, Riga knows the system that RD wants to use, and has experience of it, which Powell did not.

I have reservations, of course I do. I am fully aware that the Great Duchatelet Experiment could go horribly wrong. But it could also revolutionise the way the club operates in the short and long term and leave us better off than we have been for a very long time. One whole season of RD's new look Charlton will tell us a lot more about where we are going than inheriting the Cockney Mob's mess ever would. Onwards and Upwards - and I think RD has that same aim.

I agree and look at lomas at millwall no matter what he done he was never gonna be successful I know he was shit but you get my point they never took to him , you need to be behind a manager and give them time . Powells had time and were bottom so move on .
  • Lots of maybe's ;-)
  • Here's a theory. Maybe RD only gets involved in picking teams when things are going very badly, perhaps even using such tactics to force a manager to quit. I'm wondering whether he is having any input into picking the current SL team which is flying high. Perhaps once he gains confidence in a manager, he lets them get on with it without interference.

If he is picking 5 x teams per week he cannot have much time for his electronics business.
  • Agreed. Time to get behind the team more than ever

At a guess he is happy with the other teams and is therefore leaving them to do what they want. He wanted his own man in so the best bet is to undermine the present incumbent to the point that he disappears. That's happened. Will be interesting to see the team tonight.

Yes. It's crazy to imagine that he's picking the teams at all his clubs. I can imagine him saying " look Chris, I've provided you with 4/5 of the best players that are currently available to me, and you're refusing to play them. You either play them or you're out"

  • Getting behind the team is all we can do at this stage
  • Whoever plays tonight deserves our support. Its a winnable game and supporting the players could make the difference. COYR!
  • All the new signings start. We win 5 0.
    Job done.
