What Chris Powell would have said to the players upon his departure...

He would have said...

"keep going, keep fighting and do your best to keep Charlton in the championship. Don't let your heads drop.No sulking, you still have a job to do, whoever comes in, play for the badge and the fans".

Along those lines.

The players might not be overly enthused playing for the new manager in comparison to Chris Powell, but they still better give everything they've got for the club. Charlton hasn't died.

Jose Riga...a big roll of the dice and, yes a bit of a Les Reed Jeremy irons. But we could roll a 6 here...though I'm still pro Powell regardless, funny ain't it.

Getting emotional thinking about Powell saying bye to his players and staff.

    Damn you got me!!!
  • He would have told them to give everything for the fans - that is what the man is about.

  • The man has left with his reputation in tact and he knows the few who gave him 100%
  • Now we have a man in place who had probably never even heard of Charlton before today
  • I'm getting angry and upset again

Never said bye and have a safe 4 hours drive home every one to us on Sunday
Won't hold that against him though

I think he knew he was a goner and also knew he wouldn't be able to keep his emotions in check - I think we can forgive him that!
  • 'Cousins, you're back in centre midfield!'
  • Whatever it was it would have reflected his class and decency. The dignity and loyalty that he has shown over the past few months given the lack of support he has had from both the old and new owners should never be forgotten.
  • I really resent this thread as it sounds sarcastic and insultingly simplistic. As SM said, it would have been decent and loyal.
  • Laters Charlton... Your loss.
  • he apologised and made statements about us the fans and we deserved and that they need to go and win for us and themselves

The intent of the thread was to suggest that Chris Powell is still a Charlton supporter and his influence may still continue in a positive way for the rest of the season. Like as I was saying, I believe he would tell the players to not dwell on his departure, get their heads down, stay silent and 100% Charlton! regardless of their direct employers.

It was perhaps not made obvious in my text, but the fans should stick with Charlton through thick and thin...it's what Powell would want us to do....even behind how that fact that he got a right filthy back stabbing from the people that own the club.

We need some more threads based on pure speculation, guesswork and boredom
