The last straw

From reading some of the reactions from today and some people saying they won't go to games etc. because of the decision got me thinking what would be the last straw for me? I honestly don't think anything would stop me loving this club, my dad tried to raise me as a West Ham fan but I chose to Charlton for some crazy reason and have not regretted it ever since and don't think I ever will, sure there are low points like today but I don't think I would ever pack it in.

So here is my question what would be the last straw for you either with Charlton or football in general? This ranges from refusing to go again to simply not feeling the same way about the club or the sport? Would it be a decision like today? A change of the colours, name or location?

This isn't a thread to dig out fans or find out what a 'proper/true' fan is, this is just to find out what would make people reconsider how they feel about the club after spending their money and time over long periods. I know some might be thinking this is a bit of an over reaction but I thought it would be an interesting discussion at a suitable time like now rather than on the back of a win. I still love the club and want it to exceed in every single way as I am sure all of you do too, but for those whose faith is wavering I just want to understand what made you feel this way, cheers

  • I think it would take a lot. An MK Dons type thing maybe?
  • I'm not sure, maybe nothing. Been a few times where you go knowing that its not going to be good and it is but then you get surprised and its good, re QPR recently.

Also the reverse when you expect a good show and its dire.

You get home and say 'never again' but then the next game comes around and you say to yourself 'I'll give it one more go' and its crap again.

This then carries on all season and the next and the next.........
  • Goal music - goal music would be my last straw

Just you wait till Reza scores tomorrow! ;-)

  • Ebbsfleet United and MyFC was my last straw. Started coming to watch CAFC to get a football fix and even though it was during the Pardew championship era have never looked back.

Unfortunately looks like the curse of dodgy owners has followed me...
  • Just had a rethink and it would be the last straw if Simon Jordan ever became the owner.
  • If Neil warnock turned up as manager.
  • Think Sonic has it spot on... Should Charlton be moved to a different part of the country and be called Lincoln Athletic then its AFC Charlton for me

the dwellers in the fair city of Lincoln do not give much of a hoot about the Imps, never mind a cuckoo club coming in from the smoke .. ((:>)

There's already an AFC Charlton, but they go under the name of Ebbsfleet Utd....................
  • Nothing could ever stop me loving this club it is too big a part of my life. Lincoln athletic would truly suck though.
  • Dennis Wise.
  • Nothing I have been completely Charltonised...

    Not even goal music?!
  • I love Charlton, always have. My dad brought my brother and I up as Charlton fans amongst all the United/Arsenal/Chelsea fans in my school's growing up.

I was a season ticket holder from 9 years old up until I left home for Uni. When at Uni, I caught games when we were up north and home games when I was down during the holidays. Now, I catch games in between shift work home and away.

I loved seeing the players and as I got older, invested my own money into watching them. Wanting my money to go to the club.

Curbs reign came and went but the same Charlton spirit was there in the players until Chrissy came back home. He brought something magical.

Every game I'd be happy knowing I was seeing my hero's, supporting Powell and helping the club.

Now Roland has come in. He's brought in "networking" SL players, more of which are on the way; Powell is gone and I don't want my money going to Roland.

The last weeks of this season and what Roland does are vital...

I'll always support Charlton but my heart in it will be gone and the last straw:

If Roland turns us into a SL Team B. It'll be the same ground, kit and colour but that Charlton spirit, tradition and identity will be dead.

    Good post.
  • sharing with palace at selhurst park wouldnt make me very happy.
  • Goal music - goal music would be my last straw

Why, you would rarely have to hear it. ;-)

  • Currently I am angry and really frustrated with the club, but that seems the norm these days. I will take a lot of winning round but will be at the grround every game I can.
  • Never abandon hope.
  • It would take a lot for me. I don't know what it would have to be but I know it would have to be a hell of a lot.
  • Relegations, ground sharing and crap football aren't enough to make me stop going as I'd have stopped as soon as I'd begun. But It would simply take us being used for other peoples/clubs benefit for me to stop because then it would just be pointless and with no stupid hope of success or pride.
