Watford and Boro have unknown foreign Managers, they have improved, can we?????

Comments

  • Watford made the play offs last season, they are 7 points off 6th at the moment, is that improvement?
  • Time will tell, Watford and Boro both have far better squads than us however.
  • and Brighton
  • Didn't Boro just set a new club record for games without scoring? They are 13th.

Change can be good and Riga could be good but we just as easily look at the new managers at West Brom and Fulham.
  • Potentially, the main positive of this thread though is that it has reminded me we could have appointed Tony Mowbray and didn't.
  • I hope the new guy comes good.

Deep down I expect us to get less than the 39 points accrued in 2009
  • Who knows - it really can go either way. West Brom also have a new unknown foreign manager. They look like helping Palace stay up.
  • both Watford and boro were near the bottom, they have improved and certain not be in a relegation fight like us, that's an improvement
  • Our new manager does not even have an English Wikipedia page...

    I was concerned about that

    boro were 16th.

  • Boro's manager used to be Mourinho's assistant at Real Madrid and also had a decent career in La Liga, so not exactly unheard of.

Watford also had some fairly decent Serie A players foisted on them, as opposed to Roland's rejects

Most of our players are still out of contract. They clearly believed in Chris Powell and his vision for the Club; a vision that is aligned with the history and traditions of CAFC and its supporters. He has been treated extremely poorly in the past two years. And now he's been forced out because of his unwillingness to bend to the owners' vision for the future.

These players will now have nothing to play for knowing that everything they've bought into in the past three years about Charlton Athletic has been brought crashing down and they will know that they have no place in the new vision. They will be disposed of, just like Chris Powell. Who knows who their replacements will be. No one can organise this group of players to achieve anything more than Chris Powell did.

Charlton will be relegated. But what's worse is that we had a chance to be successful and do it the Charlton way. That's now gone for now and we'll have to start again. I can't see it any other way.

Spot on. It's disgusting how the whole thing has played out.

Totally this. Like I've said in another post, the players will lose the motivation to fight for our Championship status knowing that they will probably all be gone after this season. Will be extremely gutted to see CP's team disintegrate in this way but it's just what will inevitably happen in the summer I think. The future's never looked so dark.
  • I think Watford is very interesting as they are in almost exactly the same position as us with regards to being hte feeder team for eign network owners. I don't really think they've done too badly out of it.
  • West brom got in a good new guy......

    Oh, hang on
  • Boro havent "picked up" - they have just gone the longest period in the Clubs history without scoring
  • And, Boro have gone on this record without scoring at a time when they have players on loan from Chelsea due to the managers links with Mourinho (too bad if thats spelt wrong) - so Im not sure what point this thread is trying to make. What has happened at Charlton was predicted when RD took over as its what he did at Standard Liege when he took over there.

I think the intention is that we become the "top club" in their little pool of clubs because of the money involved potentially for going up...

Of course that almost happened last season but this season we've been found out to an extent and the players brought in have not been of the same standard.

As for improving under Sannino - well we've got better defensive wise but still not won away from home with him.

He's done a decent job but its still a bit hit and miss.
