So replace him with someone he got rid of at another club?
I also find that bizarre.
Possibility is that Riga is a Dutchatelet yes man, had a mediocre season with Standard and parted amicably as he wasn't up to it. If RD needs someone to nurture our youth prospects to the stage where they can be sold or moved to Standard - or he needs someone to make the network players feel comfortable as they work their way up the ladder from Charlton he is probably just about ideal.
Sounds ominous but it wouldn't be the first time in the last couple of years that the daily mail has reported impending doom at the Valley only for it to prove to be something of an exaggeration.
Think CP should go to save his sanity - the owner doesn't want him.
Yet a week ago we were told talks were advanced over a new contract. None of us know what RD does or doesn't want really. This is more likely a political leak to try and get Powell to toe the line better and back down over some of his demands. If RD didn't want Powell, he'd be gone by now.
What a good idea that is. Let's add a coach with no experience of the Football League to a bunch of players with no experience of the Football League and see how big a train-wreck we can create. Maybe we could get him in by the weekend so Millwall can have the chance to get double figures?
Apparently, Duchatelet is due to be at the game on Wednesday, so possibly there may be developments around that. I hope that if Chris does go he puts the fans straight about what's been going on, not in a vitriolic or spiteful way, but because I think we deserve to know what's happening to our club.

Mick Collins tweeted last night that he had just 'received the phone call he had been dreading'. Powell related?
That would make sense. The potential replacement sounds about right - why limit the 'plan' to brining in players who can't hack it at his other clubs, lets also bring in a manager who wasn't up to it too. Fantastic.
Mick Collins tweeted last night that he had just 'received the phone call he had been dreading'. Powell related?
Tax bill related? Nothing to do with Charlton related? None of our business related?
Ha. There are clearly times when you can legitimately claim something is none of someone's business. I'm pretty sure that the content of a public twitter post is not one of those occasions!
If Powell does go, I just hope we as fans get behind and support fully whoever we bring in to replace him. It wouldn't be the new guys fault for all the latest ongoings

You're right, the fault would be solely at Roland's door and I would hope the fans would make their feelings very clear to him.

Unless Collins has just finished reading "How to send cryptic tweets" by Andy Ansah, then I stand by my original remark!

What like the Standard fans did and where did that get them? I thought Roland continued to plough his own furrow since when they have topped their league.

I think some already have - to KM at the motorway service station. I presume the messages of total dissatisfaction with the current set up would have been relayed back to him.

They made there feelings very clear, and now they are top of the league. Their expression of how much the club meant to them may well of been part of that.
RD really doesn't care what the fans think. He's a businessman, a successful one, who believes he knows how to make money by using his tried and tested processes.
Personally, I don't think CP will be in charge for the Millwall game but we'll win and Jacko will dedicate it to Powell.

Pure conjecture, Roland very much appears to be his own man.
There are fundamental differences / fractions, and the only way Chris was ever going to win this battle, particularly going against owner instruction on team selection, was by 'his team' continuing to get results like the QPR one. That seemed to dry up now and the limp attempt on Sunday has made a huge dent in the overwhelming support of Powell by the fans. That's becoming less of an issue.
Have always believed that when no key contracts emerged in January that we were in for a huge summer of upheaval, and that it should have just been done there and then
As seems the norm with this new lot, timing of their actions and inactions seem to be wrong everytime.
Often, a new manager can galvanise a team to produce some good short term improvements in results. In this instance, if Chris Powell were to be leave, I suspect the reverse to happen. Powell is obviously very popular with the players who were at the Club pre-the transfer window. Those that have come in, apart from Adjarevic, have not had time to establish a relationship with their manager.
If the Daily Mail is correct, I fear it would be the final nail in the coffin which is our 2013/2014 season.
As much as I dislike admitting this, someone like Neil Warnock would be a far better option. Or, perhaps Curbishley will be offered a short term post, as he was at Wolves last season. That would be our last, best hope given the current situation.

Some people will be pleased.

The fact is this may be happening, but really, the source is Little more reliable than Viz.

@MickPCollins: Football can be a really shitty business sometimes, and today it's going to prove it. Again.
