So we could have gone to Wembley...

And played Hull.

Let's say for instance Harriots chance went in and we held on for the 1-0. We would all be buzzing and going nuts looking forward to our high profile semi final against Hull at Wembley which we would say is, actually, possibly winnable.

The truth is that we are simply not good enough for that kind of treat, whoever we play, and it would have just been a humiliating thrashing of an experience Hull would put on our heads. Millwall didn't play a premier league team till their semi final against Wigan...and that showed.

A very expensive day out and another fixture to pile on top of our relegation fighting season. A fixture we would put more emphasis and preparation on than what we really need to be concentrating on doing and staying up. Wigan went down actually winning the cup, although we would most likely actually take that scenario...but it just goes to show.

It would be more painful to see a very close 3-2/4-3 defeat (and more respect to the players for giving it a proper go)

My point is that underneath the disappointment and frustration, Sheffield United may have done us a favour. Instead of holding on to a dream and struggling, the inevitable has simply been put to bed, and we can go back to reality.

We might go down regardless of the cup or not, but reality is reality ....and we are now back in it.

  • that is the one positive I take.

we can now be crap solely in the league rather than the Cup as well.

And we can now keep our sh*tness hidden just in the neutral eyes of Chris Kamara rather than all football fans.
