The season starts on Wednesday

Yes I was there today and yes I left the match dazed, bewildered, embarrassed and angry like the majority. Well bewildered? I guess I have seen it so many times before I shouldn't have been so surprised.

For us the response on Wednesday in the match against Hudders is now key. If we show no passion or fight then I think we will go down. Chris (if he is still here) needs to pick up the lads and get them focused on the remainder of the season. Yes we have games in hand but they are no good if not converted to points. We now have the extra pressure of fighting to get off the bottom of the table and out of the relegation positions. I believe we can still make it. But Wednesday's performance will be most telling. Let's try and be united in our support for our team and club too.

BTW - congratulations Sheffield Utd. You played good football today, you deserved the victory and all the best to you for the rest of your campaign.

  • Do you really think we can stay up after today's performance and Powell's tactics and team selection? I really hope we can but just can't see it after today.
  • the season started last august. no one told our players though....
  • Another thread about us on CL, JEEZ come on lads, give us a break eh? ;)

One player understood and he scored a hatrick last weekend...
  • Exactly. Our season finished when we sold Yann. You can stay up with 1 good striker but not with none. Unless we push the boat out and get in 2-3 quality loans we have absolutely no hope.

Fully expect us to bottle it and experience our usual embarassment at Millwall if players aren't brought in this week.
  • we will probably scrape a win on Wednesday and everyone will get a bit excited, followed by the usual capitulation at the Den, full expecting a defeat there.
  • It's more than passion and fight, we need tactics, tactics that enable us to break down opposition defences and create chance. Church may be poor, but it's not as if we're creating lots of chances, our strikers are feeding off scraps at the moment.
  • did we get any injuries yesterday cos we need Hudders and smallwall to have some to give us a bit of a chance

Well, we have Vaughan out injured and Lynch also out. Jonathan Hogg likely to be back.

We are inconsistent beyond belief and it absolutely is one week (match), great performance and win, next week (match) absolutely dire.

The bad news for you is we were dire on Saturday which suggests we will put in a great performance on Wednesday. We always seem to react to an appalling performance then back we go again after the superb one, very frustrating!.

  • And ends on Saturday !!!!!!!

  • Tempted to go to this one. Not giving up on the team just yet... Plenty to play for...
  • We'll probably win 3-0 on Wednesday and we'll all be pulling our hair out as to why we couldn't have done it against United. It is the Charlton way
  • It's all about Wednesday, just need to get the boys off the floor and focused on the league. QPR game wasn't long ago and I thought we were brilliant. The league is what is important at the moment.

I've been feeling positive for the past month or so, but then I avoid a lot of threads on here, maybe ignorance is bliss.
  • The Charlton way indeed, we win seemingly pointless games under the radar, but on the big occasion we're nowhere! Typical Charlton will win on Wednesday, we'll all think we're back on track, and then bosh Millwall will stuff us.

Whereas we're very consistent. Dire one week then dire the next.

It may not be a 'big occasion' but, make no mistake, the game on Wednesday night is huge for us.

  • we have to win Wednesday, unfortunately we will not beat millwall at their gaff, we never do.
I hope we turn up Wednesday!!

When we kick off on Wednesday we will have 5 games in hand over Millwall. They are playing away to Blackpool on Tuesday..

you still here? .. I though you'd be off to join the Ukrainian Liberation Army, ready to fight to the last man on the eastern front
  • Let's hope our season does restart this week now that the Wonderful Wemberley Wobbles and jitters are a thing of the past .. we are easily good enough to avoid relegation .. we have 'nothing to fear except fear itself' .. who said that ?

Lets hope some games go our way tomorrow - but the club being in danger, selling its best two players so far this season then its inability to bring in any replacements for the struggles ahead makes us a laughing stock. Except we are not laughing - I go on Wednesday more in hope than expectation - I suspect this is the game where what little hope I have gets extinguished- but if not, I'm sure Millwall can oblige over the weekend! If I was a village idiot, I would have the sense to know that the loanees we need have to come in now - unfortunately, the people running our club must be below that intelligence level!

So could be 7 points behind them by the time we play at the Den ! Lose that one and Millwall are over the hills and far away from us.

  • The target has to be 6 points from our next 2. And the players need to sweat blood trying to achieve that! And if that happens, we might be a bit more philosphical about yesterday!

I think we hope for a draw to keep as many teams within reach as possible.
  • Tue 11 Mar 2014 - Championship

    Barnsley v Leicester 19:45
    Derby v Bolton 19:45
    Doncaster v Watford 19:45
    Yeovil v Ipswich 19:45
    Blackpool v Millwall 20:00
  • if we and smallwall feck it up tues/weds and do a nil nil draw Saturday we could still have to play them next year but in league one,oh,what a thought
  • If we've any chance of staying up, the season MUST start on Wednesday and continue on Saturday

I'd play Cousins centre half with Morro and Devitte, then have Wilson and Wiggins as wing backs, AA, JJ and Diego in centre midfield and Reza and Polish Pete up front. Almost certain to lose but you have to roll the dice sometimes and that time might have come!

  • Barnsley 1-4 Leicester
    Derby 1-0 Bolton
    Doncaster 1-1 Watford
    Yeovil 2-1 Ipswich
    Blackpool 1-3Millwall

    That's my take.
