[cite]Posted By: PeakeysRocket[/cite]thanks very much bfr.i can't see him going really either and just wondered wether he had said anything himself about jumping at the first opportunity.if we are to go down,i am sure charlton see him as the perfect manager to steer us back up and will more than make it his while to stay.
No, as far as I know he's said nothing about moving on or given any indication that he would, but you never know what's around the corner and there's always the risk that when you start a new job that your face just doesn't fit etc. But he looks more than settled at Charlton and I think he's here until a much better job comes along, I don't think it'll be about more money for him but perhaps having access to a bigger transfer budget and European football etc. If we can offer that, and the new TV deal kicks in next season then he may stay longer than his current contract - and on what I've seen so far I'd be more than happy with that.
Right now I don't see that we have anything to worry about.
1. Its fantastic news we have maintained our current structure of management, that is clearly working well at the moment. Pardew rates Parkinson, and trusts Parkinson, which means a better working environment for everyone involved, and increased stability.
2. If my theory that 'we're not going to mention' does become true, we will have a man already in place to become our next manager, a seamless transition that we did not have over the past 12 months. We should of had it with Reed, but he wasn't cut out for the management role and the players did not respect. The board will be paying close attention to how Parkinson gets on, and i'm confident that if the same concerns are there as they were with Reed, they won't make the same mistake again.
3. If we were desperate to retain Parkinson, as it now appears, we should of moved quicker to achieve an acceptable agreement. BUT be clear that Charlton have done nothing wrong in tempting a member of staff to stay with the company. Parkinson's decision to pull out of a job he had agreed to just 1hr before the press conference (if these statements are true) does leave a little to be desired, if you are honest.
Agreed, but its probably better for all concerned that he pulls out at the 11th hour than agree to take a job that he does not really want. Probably best for them to find someone really up for their job and just accept that these things do happen from time to time. Christ, there is no shortage of out of work manager's so they should not be without one for long.

agree / disagree ?
he had to be close enough to their ground to be able to turn up within 1 hour to make the press conference if he wasn't going to pull out...if charlton were aware of him going for the job, they left it a bit late to counter offer...lucky he wasn't going for the palace job or we'd never hear the end of it...i bet sj will have an opinion on it anyway...

Fair play to the bloke, he seems to have adopted a "shit happens", disappointed attitude to the whole thing. Can you imagine the interview if it had been a certain orange chairman?
It seems from that interview that far from leaving it to 1 hour before the press conference PP informed the HTFC chairman of the offer from CAFC the day before and asked for time to consider.
I don't know anymore than any one else as to what happened as I'm not party to those types of negotiations but I'm sure that if we'd let him go then the board would have been casitigated for not holding on to him and letting the club be outbid by a league one side. "lack of ambition, upsetting the team, throwing away chance of staying up etc, etc".
A fairy story for you. Once upon a time there was an employee, his employers allowed him to go for interviews for another job, when he was offered another job his current employees decided they wanted to keep him and offered him a better deal.
Hands up anyone on this board who has been that employee or that employer, or both, in real life.

Yeah, me too.
