Spain v Italy: March 5th 2014

Briefly, this was on SkySports3 last night and was a terrific, fast, skilful game. Spain just shaded it 1-0 despite a shaky looking defence. Neither side was at more than about 60% full strength.
We (England) will be up against it v Italy in Brazil. As always, Italy were committed, ruthless, hard to penetrate and very quick on the break. Balotelli was not playing, Pirlo came on late and played his usual quarter back role to good effect. He needs to be marked out of the game. Probably easier said than done. One cheerful note for all us England fans, Buffon is starting to look his age and was rather at fault for the goal

One peripheral point: The game was played in Atlético Madrid's stadium, a game, albeit a friendly, between the last losing Euro finalist and the reigning World & European champions. The stadium looked no more than 1/2 full, if that. Has the Madrid/Spanish public become bored with success ?

    Exactly why playing in that humidity might get us out of jail. Neither team will commit too much, being the first game, so i think both will be happy with a draw.
