Morro

If Morro is out do we play left footed Dervite, Lennen, Feeley or throw in right footed confident talented Gomes?

Comments

  • What happened to Morro today?
  • Dervite I assume.
  • Dervite is right footed!!!!
  • Dervite is neither footed.
  • Dervitte was excellent against qpr and unlucky to be left out.
  • Dervite is right footed!!!!

Some might argue that he has two left feet...................

Dervite is right footed & despite your obsession for youth players, we will not be playing Feeley or Gomez.

Lennon could be on the bench.
  • My obsession is with quality players. If you are good enough, you are old enough.

I agree up to a point.

But someone that looks good at youth level isn't necessarily going to cut it at 1st team level.

They may lack strength & certainly experience.

Gomes looks quality to me, but he's still on the young side imo.

As for Feely, I'd offer you a wager, that he won't start at Sheffield, but it's not worth the nonsense.

He's not even in the reckoning.

  • I never saw like the lad was injured to me this afternoon. Hopefully he was ill

  • If Morrison is out it'll be Dervite (who is right footed as said) and Wood. Our senior centre backs are fine at this level.

Feely doesn't seem to be near the first team. Lennon's now ahead of him so I'd expect him to be on the bench.

Gomez obviously has pace and ability on the ball, but at the moment I'm not sure how he'd cope in the air or in a physical battle against a big strong Championship striker. Does anyone that has seen him regularly feel he'd be ready for that?

Yes, harveys gardener thinks Feely & Gomez are ready :-)

Hopefully this was the case, or he picked up a niggle and CP thought "Okay, we know we aint gonna get f**k all out of this game, so I'll take him off as a precaution".

No point risking him and causing longer term damage, meaning he misses 2 or 3 games that are actually winnable......................
  • Thought Morro had an ice pack on his thigh when he sat in the dugout but could be wrong.

Alan Lee did not outmuscle Gomez in the U21 game at Sparrows this season. He dealt with him comfortably. He is an outstanding prospect and hope he can play in the pre season games and make the step up similar to how Cousins did
  • I can't imagine for a minute that we'll be blooding any youngsters away from home in a cup quarter final. Surely that's too much pressure. It's only Millwall away the week after, save them for that ;-)
  • Anyone heard anymore about what is wrong with Morro?
  • seen Feeley play once so no idea if he's ready. Gomes though looks quality and those who see him regularly say he's better than Rufus at same age. RR debuted at 18 so why not JG at 17?

Haven't read every post that has gone before here but what I have seen in the three? appearances so far, Lennon will be an able deputy for any of our established three CBs. Forget any untried youth players at first team level, Lennon is definitely a great prospect, quick, composed on the ball, big and strong for his age.

Good to hear @bolloxbolder. Hope we get him on a long term contract once he turns 17.

    Because he's still only 16 ;-)

OK 16 but half a year older than Shelvey & Konch debuts. Was CP here for both?
  • I think you might debut a talented 16 year old when you are safe - but too much to ask in a pressure game - as many of those coming up for us will be.
  • Dervite will be playing.

Way too risky to play a 16 year old when we're needing big performances every game. Experience is key.
  • Thought Morro had an ice pack on his thigh when he sat in the dugout but could be wrong.

definately an ice pack, either his right knee or thigh
  • The problem is CB is possibly the hardest position to play youngsters due to the need for physical attribute.
  • I liked Kevin Feely when I saw him for the U21's and notice he is now captaining them.

However, he had a disastrous full league debut against Coventry when he was on loan at Carlisle and he seemed to be permanently injured when he went out to Wimbledon .In this time Harry Lennon a fellow left footer seems to have overtaken him in the pecking order . My fear has been since Leon Cort has been injured we are a centre back light squad wise. As for Gomez he looks an exciting prospect but at 16 is it too early?

Konch (and Parker) both made their debuts aged 16 in the 1997-1998 play-off season. We signed CP from Derby straight afterwards at the beginning of our first Prem season in 1998-1999.
  • After watching Gomez against Millwall I really can't see him playing ANY of our run in games let alone our quarter final. Admittedly he is a terrific prospect, he reads the game extremely well, and he is pretty quick BUT I don't think he is strong enough yet, if we were safe then yes give him some 1st team 'action' but we have got to look after the young man!
  • Will be interesting to see who plays in the U21 Development Squad game at SL tomorrow.
