charlton life group travel

I am a Charlton fan who moved from Thamesmead at the age of 10 and now live in the southend area. As soon as I got to about 14 I started to go to the valley on my own on the train and the first thing I bought from my first ever months wages was a CAFC season with this being the first year in 5 years that I have not got one although am getting one for next year. I would really like to go to more away games but with being the only CAFC fan I know it does put you off travelling on a club coach on your own for hours.

I not to sure if this has been mentioned before but would anyone be interested if something was arranged for a sort of Charlton life group for a couple of away games next year. hire a minibus/coach at split cost so that people get to travel and enjoy the away day with like minded CAFC Fans, also it may work out cheaper for train journeys for group bookings.

anyway just an idea .. any thoughts?

  • this is something we're going to try and look into in the Summer for next season. There are lots of people like you who have to go on their own, or their groups have dwindled away and would much prefer to travel with a few others and share a few drinks and laughs on the way.

Were going to consider trying to arrange group train travel like what Syd Cheesewright operates now so that like-minded people can get together easier. As with everything, its going to need someone prepared to take on the main organising, but i know there are plenty of others like myself who would happily provide support. And it certainly wouldn't be a 'closed shop' restricted to people off here.

If anyone is keen to get involved, please send me a whisper.
  • Good news AFKA, like you said think it is something that could take off and help create some laughs on the board. i not to sure how to do a whisper, but would be more than happy to put my name forward with regards to any help with organising etc.
  • Roseandcrown I know exactly what you mean, pretty much my whole Charlton life have gone to away games on my own until this season. Have made the effort to meet up with some people on here before/after home games & despite their better judgement they have allowed me to join in meet up go on trains etc to some away games. Have to admit I don't think I have enjoyed going to Charlton as much as I do now, some really top people on here probably share naff all in common with them apart from our love for all things CAFC.

A load of us are meeting early for the Sheff United game for an all dayer, you are welcome to join!
  • Cheers Ketman, may take you up on that offer and with that being such a vital game may need a few drinks to get through it.

Hi Solidgone, you want me to bring you up a sackload of oggies?

They might be a bit sweaty after a loooong journey, but they probably taste better that way.
  • Thanks Oggie for the offer but I dont think I will be able to make the pub. But I am sure the rest of CL booze merchants would woof down the sweaty pasties!
