I'm not so sure about this. Winning the cup would be nice. A trip to Wembley, the exposure and glamour. Europa cup next year. But, being consigned to being in L1 again that would soon wear off. If there was a guarantee that it would only be for one season and we would come back stronger then of course I'd go for it. But, without a crystal ball I would say survival is more important and that is what I would prefer if it came down to a straight choice.
The excitement of winning the FA Cup wearing off.......................we have not won a sausage since 1947!
This is an odd thing to say I know, but I kinda feel that our cup run is a bit worthless because we haven't played anybody of note. With apologies to the two Sheffield clubs, Oxford and Udders, if we get to Wembley after playing them it will feel a bit "meh" for me. if we'd knocked out a couple of pre m teams along the way I might feel a bit different but for me the cup is an increasing distraction and survival in the league is paramount. Luck of the draw and all that, but if we got to Wembley it would be a great day out but I'd sort of feel that we'd got there on the cheap.

With the rubbish we are playing at the moment, we are only going to beat 'cheap' teams. Enjoy the ride whilst it lasts
100% Cup for me too. Especially as it would mean we would have had to beat a Prem team. Ideally would love to beat Arsenal in the final. That would be incredible, prolonging their trophy drought and also because I know a lot more Arsenal fans than City fans say. Would really cement Chris Powells legendary status.
League 1 is a bloody laugh, and whenever it got really bad I'd remind myself of the Wembley win... I personally didn't find it as dreary and depressing as some of you lot seemed to. Although perhaps we were there a season too long. Not to mention it would be hilarious playing Gillingham on the Saturday then Benfica on the Thursday.
Having said that, I truely believe we will not go down either way and if we won the FA CUP we would most certainly stay up.

I know what your saying Billy , even thought it myself , but i bet Millwall fans didn't give a jot , when they had an easy run to the final when they played Man United a few seasons back.
we can get promotion almost any old time (alas usually from the third to second tier) .. cup wins come around only every 65 years or so .. even a semi @ Wembley would be good
Wigan shouldn't have won it - Shef Utd certainly shouldn't be in the quarters - it's the FA Cup!
This is not either, or In my opinion - a run in the cup may help survival. Incidentally with reference to the original post - We are not relegated yet! There is everything to play for and some good young and new players in the squad.

geezer that said - along the lines of telling the grandkiddies how we avoided relegation in 2014 or how we won the cup - nailed it for me. Should of "liked it "
Blimey. I'm in a very small minority then. I just don't share the confidence that a relegation would not only be survived but swiftly reversed.
Having said that, one of the happiest days of my life was being at Wembley for the play off final so I will certainly be there for the FA Cup semi and final with you bunch of lovely nutters :-)

Teams get promoted and relegated all the time, especially a club like Charlton.
When I'm old and grey I want to be telling my grandchildren about one of the most unlikely FA Cup triumphs of all time, that MY club achieved.
I think those sorts of memories outweigh the matters of "oh but we might lose a couple of players"
We won't have done that

So in short: CUP.
*Overly optimistic funny face thingy*
If we stayed up but crashed out of the cup RD would back is and we' d push on
I think we need one or the other though - I'd prefer staying up given a choice of the 2.

Turning down that glory for another season in the championship is just bonkers
