I imagine what attracted him to Charlton was the fact that he could curl one off in the centre circle while selling our squad to palace for a rennet and face little more than irritated tutting, never mind ransacking his office.
Thank you. Very good read and fills in the facts about what clubs he owns, the price he paid for Charlton (not a bad price when he has already sold about £1m of player assets) and what CP makes of it (at least in public).
I think it also ads weight to the fears that there will be no expensive loanees coming in any time soon, CP will be ditched in the summer (as will all of the out of contract players) and we will see a big re-shuffle at the club then with the emphasis on Euro youth and the "Roland group" making an overall profit.
all doom and gloom merchants, I am positive that in the long run his philosophy will be the way forward, unfortunately I think we are going to have to go down and bounce back first.

Exciting isn't it. At last we have a plan to move forward. We were going down with a ten point deduction and now we have a young hungry team. Can't wait.
Having extracted my head from my arse, oh enlightened one..... tell me......are The Guardian deemed to be part of the national media? Or is that another figment of my imagination?
Interesting, dont fully understand comments about the club is doomed and the club will do a Portsmouth ? as surely that means 14m down the toilet for RD?

I'm hugely optimistic about our future as part of Roland's network. However, we've basically run out of time this year, and I do believe that we will probably be relegated. The club was a total mess when Roland took charge & there have been too many issues to sort out in time to save us. Many thanks to those clowns TJ & MS!!
Next year will be the start of a bright new dawn for Charlton.
Agree NLA, if the club can finance itself by selling on players from the academy and young signings we'll be doing something right. We could see some exciting players come through and play better football. There could be players we'd never have usually signed, or youth players that wouldn't have normally been given as many games.
It will be different to what we've seen before but it would be more Charlton than a billionaire throwing money at the club.
Maybe some would be happier had a new owner came in and spent millions on proven Championship players, but if that continues each season and we fail to get promoted we could join plenty of other clubs building up debt as they gamble on promotion.
I'm not sure we'll stay up but we have a chance and beyond that we could be working towards a young team of exciting players that play good football. I'll wait and see what happens, it could turn out well for us.
I agree too. We still have a real chance of avoiding relegation, but next season could be very exciting if we do end up back in League One. It would be fantastic to see a team built around Cousins, Poyet, Reza, Piotr, Lennon, Pigott, Wiggins and, hopefully, Chris Solly et al challenging for promotion whilst playing much better football on a decent surface. No reason we can't bounce straight back.
Of course, the key question would be Duchatelet's reaction to relegation, but Poyet apart, these players are on long-term contracts and I wouldn't be surprised if Duchatelet were to decide to hang on to them and, as importantly, to play hard ball if players agitate to leave.
Even better in some ways, this group of players, having spent a year developing, both individually and collectively, in League One might then have the quality to make an impact in the Championship. I might be a natural optimist, but I believe we have a lot to look forward to, though the future is not without risks.

Although, as someone has already pointed out in another thread, if we do get relegated, its likely that Cousins and Poyet at least will move on - maybe Solly too, if someone is prepared to risk his knee.

Are you really that ignorant of the national media or just being facetious?

Think the assumption that Cousins and Poyet will be sold as a matter of course if we are relegated is far from cut and dried. They will be worth more after a season or two more and I don't think RD will be about selling assets that still are on the rise. There will of course come a point but I think this summer will not be it. I expect a complete team revamp during the summer based on players under 25 regardless of what division we are playing. Cousins and Poyet will be fundamental to that restructuring. We need to stay up though.
Having extracted my head from my arse, oh enlightened one..... tell me......are The Guardian deemed to be part of the national media? Or is that another figment of my imagination?
I haven't suggested we don't get any coverage - the point is that partly because we are in London, where there is a weak local media and a large number of clubs, several of them much bigger than us, we get less coverage than if we were, say, Sheffield Wednesday, as a Championship club.
You seem to think it is "negative" to recognise that. I just think it's a fact, which might surprise someone coming from outside who doesn't know the structure of the London media. There's nothing "negative" about recognising that. Perhaps RD's press conference will be the lead story on all news bulletins, but I doubt it.

You know for someone that I had the utmost respect for, 95% of your posts are negative or in the least a tad on the cynical side these days, or maybe its all that shit I have in my eyes. Perhaps your stance on the media subject might have been better left until after the press conference? I think a lot of people in the football world will be interested in Duchatelet and therefore by inference Charlton, due to his experiment with multple clubs. Maybe this is just the tonic that the club needed from a media stance and if so, long may it last.

It was one line and it was light-hearted, not a criticism of anyone, since the fact there is limited coverage of Charlton is largely out of anyone's control. It's not Charlton's fault there is no daily newspaper covering them or that the local media in SE London has collapsed or that they must compete with a dozen others for regional TV and radio coverage - actually getting better TV coverage outside the M25, even though most fans live inside it.
I think it's to be welcomed that RD talks to the media and I'm sure the staff will work hard to round up sufficient interest. My only point is that it is not easy to do so and it won't be their fault if it doesn't happen, so no one should be surprised.
There has to be a story - the FA Cup and loan signings are possibly that - someone sitting behind a table six weeks after he bought the club isn't necessarily going to cut it in London. Back in January it might have. Of course you can get on the News Shopper website and fair play to them, but I would guess RD is used to more than that. The challenge is to get on Sky Sports live, BBC London TV news and the back of the Evening Standard, if not the tabloids.
As for the rest, I am bound to be negative in writing about people I regard as liars and bullies, if not worse. I describe things as I see them, not from some notional position of neutrality.
Perhaps we have to have everything out in the open about the last 18 months before we can move on. Certainly Richard Murray won't be allowed to keep digging out people who supported him personally and professionally for years without there being a response, no matter what room he does it in (and for avoidance of doubt, I am not describing him above). But it will be done openly, on the record and with the name of the author attached.
Airman is right about coverage of RD's presser, unless there is a "hook" then the journalists won't bother turning up, it really is that simple.
If he did the presser the day he took over then it would have been a different story, we could have got coverage then pretty easily - especially on the Standard Liege angle.
To get interest now from the big boys then you have to offer them something big and I don't know that RD is in a position to do that, you're not going to get the red-tops down to report on us signing Zak Ansah from Arsenal on loan.
Yes, signings sacking and takeovers make for good media coverage and I wonder what it would take to get more coverage in the Standard? Perhaps the cup draw in a few hours can be the back story if it gives us a credible path to Wembley or a big game at the Valley. I am pleased the SK case is settled because I don't want to see club dirty laundry washed in public. Personally speaking the club needs to move on but there can be no room for bullying in this new era. Getting into the Premier League has to be the goal but how we get there is important.
unfortunately I think we are going to have to go down and bounce back first.
If we do have to go down and bounce back then so be it. The plan is obviously for the long run so if it means for the time-being that we're a bit poor then so be it. Marathon not a sprint
I have sussed out how to get nationwide coverage of the conference.
All Roland has to do is unveil the huge, see through Perspex, air conditioned box, designed by Tomás Saraceno which will cover the whole footprint of the Valley to ensure the weather will not be a cause of calling off matches. He can announce a similar box for all of his other clubs because as a good businessman he values economies of scale. Saraceno, and his best friend Wei Wei to also be at the launch.
Irresistable, a story for the media about football, harmonising a stable of clubs, unimaginable wealth, art, politics, the flooding crisis and climate change all Rolanded into one.
Having extracted my head from my arse, oh enlightened one..... tell me......are The Guardian deemed to be part of the national media? Or is that another figment of my imagination?
Probably one of the only national newspapers that is truly independent - particularly the Flemish version.
Look at the end of the day, I'm sure Duchatelet isn't naive and that the reason for calling a press conference is because he has something significant to say other than hello, I've bought Charlton. Let's wait and see.

We have been mis managed under
RM (towards the end )
TJ/MS
Now if muzza is the bastion shining light of the good old days
He is the low light flickering candle of failure
TJ/MS
Tried their best hit money worries and dropped out without hitting admin
RD wants a young team of mainly home grown talent to sell on and re invest
Yet people are more worried than under the titanic hitting journey that muzza was on
TJ and MS got rid of some dead wood and lost some good people on the way yet sometimes you get collateral damage
RD and KM can bibs and braces change our club maybe for the better it certainly couldn't have got more worse
If poyet muldoon edwards cousins fox daniels etc all come through and all get sold for profit so what
We have always sold our best young players
I think a lot of fans wanted a sheik or a ruski oil baron
And had total unrealistic ambitions and now won't see past the negatives that may happen or may never appear

-Obviously an ambitious guy with a lot of ideas. (The bit on his time in politics as well is convincing anyway)
-experienced at running a football club, admitting his mistakes along the way
