What's the bigger game ?

  • Whilst we enjoy a cup game this Saturday the fixtures throw up:

Donny v Barnsley and Millwall v Bolton.

17.00 on Saturday will make interesting reading

if donny and the scum win then the rest will be pretty academic we're gonna need 28 points from 18 games - effectively winning half the remaining matches - fat chance

even if both those games are no score draws with flurries of red cards we've got a mountain to climb and the owner's lost his map and sold all the crampons and ropes
  • Staying up this season is absolute top priority. Let's get that nailed down and then we can relax and enjoy our first FA Cup final in 67 years.
  • Wednesday game is massive.
  • Dont know why staying up is so imperative. For a club like Charlton promotion seasons are the fun and you can only get promoted after a relegation!
  • Millwall v Charlton is the biggest game... Gonna be a huge step towards which team takes the third relegation spot (means it'll finish 0-0)

Really? although we will have games in hand they could be well ahead of us in 4 weeks time
They could be well clear but I doubt it... and regardless of where both teams are a derby victory can be huge... Although they'd beaten Sheff Wednesday before us just look at the run Palace went on when they won 1-0 at the Valley last season

They were top of the league within a few weeks and not saying that can happen to us but we can certainly use the confidence to pull away (Remember the 2-0 defeat at home to Millwall last season as well... we were on a terrible run playing poor Football and didnt lose for the rest of the season)

the date last season... 16/03/2013... the date this season... 15/03/2014...
  • Barnsley.

Saturday is a game without points at stake, we can enjoy it and have a laugh. The FA Cup result depends entirely on whether enough of us are wearing our lucky pants, and the number of magpies we see this week. There will be no rhyme or reason on Saturday, mind you all the fun may well be spoiled by Clattenberg.
  • Saturday - Wednesday away, Cup 5th rnd

Tuesday - Barnsley home, win would lift us out the relegation zone

So, what one is the bigger game ?

Would you answer any differently if you had the option to 'win one, lose the other' ?

    thanks.

i was on my way to The Valley to get tickets but turned back when i saw you had got your dates wrong.

when i arrived home earlier than anticipated i found my wife in bed with another woman.

great Wednesday this has turned out to be.
  • Barnsley is a must win game - usually I'd say it was a mustn't lose game but we need to start picking up points to get us above Millwall & Bolton.

Sheff Wed game should be used as a "free " match. tell the players to go out with no fear & to express themselves. doesn't matter if we lose 5-0., Go with an attacking team & get the players shooting.
  • No brainer. Barnsley
  • Wednesday - lose and that's it for the Cup this year.
Barnsley is hugely important but nothing will be decided that night.

Last season Millwall came to the Valley just after winning their fa cup quarter final and reaching wembley and beat us.

Wouldn't it be great to get to the semi final, go to the shit hole and do them for a change and watch them foam at the mouths again.
  • The cup game for me.
  • If there is any God , he would let us beat Wednesday,Barnsley AND Millwall.
  • I can understand why so many of you are keen to win the Cup game, but I am remembering how a good cup run can cause a team to be relegated (Wigan last year), or fail to get promoted (Millwall quite recently). No brainer, Barnsley.
  • Heart says Wednesday, head says Barnsley.....Or can we win both games please.......
  • must win Barnsley

  • Heart and head says Barnsley. Usually I'm all for the prospect of a great day out, drink up 6,000 Charlton away at Arsenal or Liverpool with Wembley a (minute) possibility. But even 10 of those days would not console my head or my heart at the prospect of another 3 years of non-league standard midweek home slogs against Rochdale. With Brighton and Bournemouth safely established in the Championship, there wouldn't be a single away trip worth getting excited about. Orient away the highlight of the season. Ergh.

I find myself not even looking forward to the Wednesday game that much because I'm more worried that even if we win, Millwall could be 6 points ahead of us and I'll just be that much more frustrated when we inevitably lose to Barnsley. I'd like to believe we can win both. But I don't.
