The fact that he played at right back at every level except the first team, including England youth levels. Wasn't he converted to a midfielder last summer? Square pegs square holes
Really ??? What on earth makes you think Jordan Cousins is a right back? Square pegs in round holes never works.
I think he could easily play right back. IMO would be better than Wilson so dont agree with this comment. However, agree 100% that he looks very accomplished in midfield so why change him. Problem now is that him, Poyet and AA look good in a midfield 3. Do we play 5 in midfield and 1 up top, or allow the full backs to play as wing backs in a 532?
Ok he is good I can't even take my comment seriously, he has faded badly but seeing as its his first pro season out of his natural position... he can't be running at 100% all the time!

Lol
That's like saying what on earth makes you think Phil jones can play centre back, because he has played midfield for the last 18 months.
It's nothing like saying that. have another read of what i said.
It's exactly the same thing, both are originally defenders, who have been converted to midfielders (Jones due to United having a weak midfield). Please explain how that's nothing alike ?
Edit: just seen your second comment in the thread, obviously you didn't have a clue he was originally a defender so you changed your tune.
Will we see Solly back this year? For me, his absence has been almost as important as our lack of a striker in explaining our predicament. If he was back in the team, Wilson could play right wing. It worked a treat when the two of them played down the right side against Brighton. Would love to see it again.
Have you seen the lad play at full back? It is the position he played through the majority of his career development. I suggest all 30 plus appearances in the England Youth set up, as with the majority of his academy career appearances, were at either at full back or centre back.
He is a natural and talented defender who has adjusted well to a CENTRAL midfield role. He only consistently switched to the role last season in the U21s'. The problem is he is no longer playing central midfield. Poyet, who has also played well, is now playing central midfield.
In terms of Saturdays' team the term of "square pegs in round holes" was the nonsense of a natural right midfielder (predominately played for Stevenage in the position) who has contributed to us in that role playing behind a natural and talented defender.
I have always seen his approach to Cousins and the use of Wilson at full back as a Powell blind spot. We all have them. Wilson does OK at fullback but offers considerably more to a midfield which for most of the season has offered very little.
Playing Cousins in central midfield and Wilson at fullback is a judgement call you could make either way. Playing Cousins on the right of the diamond and Wilson at fullback is entirely another matter.
At times Powells' decisions come back to bite him. Cousins certainly earned the right to be "blooded" at fullback last year. Solly could have done with the rest and Cousins the early exposure to the first team at a time it was functioning well.
I accept it is a tough judgement call as to when you blood young players but it does seem one (Solly aside) with which Powell struggles.

I have not changed my tune at all. He is natural ( and better ) midfielder than he is a right back . Fact
So you went from saying what on earth makes you think he is a right back as if the notion of him playing there is crazy and square pegs etc to saying yes he has played there but has predominately played in midfield (not true)....
You didn't answer the question on the jones comparison either?

In fairness you did say he has played more in midfield, which is not true at all. However, you could argue he was very young when playing RB/CB. Since turning pro, he has played most of his career in midfield, after playing there a lot last year under Nathan Jones. He has had a decent season in CM, so I agree why change that? We have Wilson, Solly and Nego at RB, so no need to move Cousins there at all. We have bigger problems to worry about then who plays RB.
Nego should be right back, because he was signed to be the sodding right back when Solly is out. Cousins is just getting used to the new role, he was stuck out wide midfield on Saturday and didn't exactly cover himself with glory, moving the poor kid all around the pitch won't help his development. If they want to convert him to centre mid, keep him there.
I'd start Nego right back Wilson right mid then Cousins and poyet in the middle with AA on the left
sounds right. Why can't CP see this?
Because we have to accommodate Jackson. I have no idea why though. Love the guy but he's becoming more and more of a passenger each game. Just ends up chasing shadows.
Wilson showed against Brighton that he is better suited to right midfield so now we have someone in at right back that can let him play there regularly, let's actually do it!
Cousins and Poyet in the middle with Astrit on the left suits me fine.
Before Cousins broke into the first team, I saw him playing at right back for England, and couldn't see what all the fuss/ hype was all about.
I was worried when he came into the team, particularly in the central midfield position, I think he's done really well considering, he doesn't look at ease on the right, I'd play him in the centre with Poyet personally , Nego at right back, Lawrie W at right mid, Astrit on the left, and Bobs your uncle, Fannys your tea lady.
I'd be willing to play him there over Morrison if needed. However, due to pace he may be better suited to central midfield at this level. Adjarevic and Poyet don't provide the same bite either.
ps. Astrit should only ever be played on the left if Wiggins can overlap, even then I'd be a little concerned.

Cousins would be a solid RB option, seeing as he has played there for most of his life.

Clone Cousins and play him at RB, centre-mid and in goal.
Problem solved.
(Google him you young f@&kers)
