Sorry this is an odd thread, I support Charlton Athletic, england and the England cricket team. I think CP is a Charlton legend though, mostly as a player but also as a manager. He is also a top man, but how do you support a man? Are we building a human pyramid?

All the other threads posted about CP talk of him being a Top Man, Others a true legend as a player and some say he is a great manager. I wanted to decide the three and to understand what people are basing there opinions on. Again is our record since our return to the Championship good enough.
My honest opinion is we over achieved big time last seasonconsidering the squad we had, then it was weakened in the summer and we have struggled. He isn't the greatest manager in the world and at times he makes odd decisions, but then all fans say the same unless you have Jose or Sir Alex as your boss. He is a legend as a player and a really top bloke, but he is a good manager, he has yet to reach anything above that with us. However I am glad he is our manager as he cares and he is going to be a great manager one day, hopefully he is still here then.

Thank you for an honest and respectful response.
One more question please, if Chris was in the same mould personality wise as Pardew would you still feel the same as now bases on the same results/investment
I think so, the difference between Pardew and Powell other than personality is that they entered this division from opposite ends, one had lots of cash to waste the other none. You cannot compare them as the situations are not similar in the slightest.

If CP is given funds next year and we still lack consistency then I will probably feel his time has come, but he has been like a juggler trying to perform with no limbs this last year or so. Consistency comes at a price, the better the player the more consistent they are.
It's more than that. You aren't comparing like for like because you are comparing a current manager with a former one.
Had these questions been asked in the period when the North stand were calling for Pardew to be appointed they would be different. People forget how much they wanted Pardew and base their opinions on how they felt about him in those last few months.

Indeed but when we were calling for Pardew we had Les Reed in charge.

But the chants weren't Les out the chants were Pardew in. It is very rare for fans to have picked their own replacement, they normally just want the manager sacked.
The board did what we asked (would they have appointed him if we were just shouting Les out?) and look at the thanks they ultimately got for it.
It ended badly and that make fans unable to remeber how they felt at that time.

I was pleased with the appointment of Pardew but felt he should have gone sooner.
Same with Powell getting the job. The conclusion I have come to is
If he was to go now we will never know what might have been.
If he stays and things work out no one will look back, but if we go down we will look back and think what if.
I think we have had the best of CP at this club, but if he is still with us in the Championship next season I will be delighted to be one of many who were wrong and would look forward to the abuse I would get.
  • He was seen as the saviour, then he wasted all the Bent money and started acting as though nothing was his fault.

Vincent please go back to VOTV as your WUM tactics are not welcome here.

You gave me what I was looking for
So why are you wound up</blockquote

If you really don't understand then there is very little point in explaining it. Reams will probably be able to give you an idea. Look in the mirropr and ask him.
