England defender Luke Young has said that several non-playing squad members were concerned for their safety at the Euro 2008 qualifier against Andorra.
Some fans reacted furiously after the goalless first half so the watching players did not return to the stands in the second half as England won 3-0.
"There were sections of the crowd not watching the game, just throwing abuse at the players who weren't playing.
"The guys who weren't subs didn't come out for the second half," said Young.
The crowd's reaction would never stop me playing for England - and that goes for everyone in the squad
The Charlton right-back added: "It's disappointing for the manager because after only 14 minutes the boos started - I looked up at the clock to check the time.
"Steven Gerrard said it was one of the toughest games he had played in because of the crowd reacting to us like that.
"It's been building up over a period of time and it's difficult for the boys. But it would never stop me playing for England - and that goes for everyone in the squad.
"If anything, it makes you more determined to be involved and to try to prove a few people wrong."
Young was a late inclusion to the England squad because of injuries to Gary Neville and Micah Richards.
"This call-up was in difficult circumstances," conceded Young. "I got a late call and then didn't make the bench.
"That's how it goes but hopefully after a few more games I'll have a chance to get back in there."
