I've said it before and i'll say it again. He used to come the Valley with me. As far as i know he never went to the den when he lived in Greenwich and if he decided to become a spanner after he left London i'd be very surprised. When he made the quote about going to Millwall with the lads i think a bit of artistic licence was involved.
He was at Wembley when Millwall were in the Cup final.
So was I - doesn't make me smallwall.
No but it means you're guilty of fraternizing with the enemy...
....Daniel Day-Lewis is definitely a Millwall supporter though.....the fact comes up in the media often. He even mentioned them in a BAFTA award acceptance speech some years back.
He sits there beaming, and the long thin fingers of his hands meet together under his chin. Unusually for an actor, he asks me about me, and unusually for me, I tell him. A quarter of an hour later, he knows my age, where I grew up (which, it turns out, is just a few miles from where he spent his formative years, in Charlton, south London), along with the names of both my girlfriend and baby daughter. It transpires that we both attended Millwall football matches in our youth, and that neither of us particularly enjoyed them: "The fans," he says, "all that shaven-headed aggression.
That Newshopper article reminded me of being a kid, going round to explore Dorothy Squires derelict house in Wansunt Road (my mate lived a few doors down) and finding the swimming pool full of frogs. I think we smashed a few of the remaining windows at the back of the house. Must have been about 1974.

Because only the most loyal fans go to cup finals...
Did he pay for a ticket or was he just there on a freebie because it was the cup final?

well there lies an important lesson to us all. Send your kids to Bedales and they'll end up as spanners.
