  • Whoever comes in and has to play players, he is told have to play, won't fair much better.
  • I've always believed you should judge managers long term, not on a run of form good or bad. Many calling for Powell 's head would no doubt have sacked Curbs after his Prem losing run in 99.

I also believe you should judge a manager's abilities in the context of the quality of squad that can be afforded. Many of us said at the start of the season we were in for a tough year and we'd be grateful just to stay up - so if we succeed, perhaps even if we fall, Powell will have achieved what we believed was realistic.

If we'd added these players and kept hold of the three senior guys that left I think we'd be OK. As it is its not clear if we've strengthened or weakened.

So for me if we get rid of Powell we'll never know if it's the right decision in the same way we'll never know what Parky might have achieved with the backing Powell got.

Powell 's not perfect, but he's better than many are saying, he's proved that, and the dressing room remains fully behind him. A gamble might give us a short term boost, but not many clubs get the long term improvement they seek - that's almost exclusively for those clubs who stand by their managers.
  • I can just imagine the huge grins on some of the faces on here when that second Wigan goal went in. Some of you lot support the team like you're secret Millwall fans.

I cant stick up for him any longer... Poor squad, yes. And I love the man, he's one of my heros. But think it's time for him to go, tactics recently have been nothing short of baffling and I wish him all the best for the future. Think he'll be a great manager some day, but still has a lot to learn and we can't be facilitating him learning when we're as deep in a relegation scrap as we are.

Imagine you're trying to make a pizza but you're sorry of some key ingredients. People might be baffled by some of the blends you try to get something together that at least appears like a pizza. You may stumble across something that gets you by our only works for certain situations.

Powell still doesn't have the right ingredients. We were struggling in midfield at it was. before we sold our best midfielder. He's been forced to use a comedy keeper.

Wigan exposed it for what it was yesterday, a half baked tean with 4 Championship debutants, one playing only his second game and 3 kids.

Maybe Brum will be different, but it will take a smart manager who's thought through his tactics to achieve anything if we do. Powell 's been dealt a very strange hand indeed and we should judge him in context, as we do Colin Powell and the pitch.
  • Shit its not the flim you are talking about, but i have an idea what IF RD was the headmaster and.....better stop.
  • Chris Powell may not be the best manager we've ever had, but he has a special relationship with the fans. Even Curbs did not relate to the fans (until he announced his retirement) in the same way. Can you imagine singing "Avram Grant's Red Army" or some unpronouncable name? We won't ever see the like again, I'm pretty sure of that. Sure there have been valid criticism of some of his decisions, but it's up to The Belgian to make the decision, which may well come pretty soon, and if the axe falls I Hope that Chris Powell leaves with the same goodwill from the fans as Curbs did.
