Reasons To Be Cheerful

Average age of side was 23 for most of the game - must be one of the youngest sides in our history.

Three teenagers in the side.

Four players making their League debut for us.

More than half the side hadn't played more than one full game for us.

We were winning for 88 minutes.

We have a squad now full of unknowns with at least another two players who might actually bring something different to our game as opposed to one that had actually got us into the relegation zone.

And finally. Despite what one great Manager, Bill Shankly, may or may have said, football is still just a game. It may hurt you at times but that hurt is never terminal.

  • We have money to spend for the first time in ages. We will get some decent loans in. We will beat Birmingham next week and move out of the bottom three.
  • Reasons to be cheerful - Powell will be sacked in the morning
  • Sorry, as things stand right now, there is nothing to be cheerful about. Supporting Charlton doesn't get any easier, does it??!!
  • Possibly the worst game of football I have ever had the experience of watching
  • Millwall lost. Made a change to be there & see them lose. I joined in with the 'that's why you're going down'
  • before the game most people on this site were forecasting a heavy defeat, it wasn't we lost be the smallest of margins with a new team. Perhaps the problem today was that we didn't cave in but made a game of it which gave us all hope, which was dashed right at the end.

  • Possibly the worst game of football I have ever had the experience of watching

then you haven't seen many games, it wasn't that bad
  • we will get the chance to see if we can beat the magical 101 points people keep spouting about next season when we are back in League 1

In all seriousness, do you enjoy supporting Charlton?

Are you actually serious? We didn't do anything for 88 minutes apart from defend. No shots, no excitement no breaking football no nothing. Powell is rapidly becoming one of the worst managers in our history. No tactical know how, no clue about substitutions and no fucking idea. Defend him all you want, his record speaks for itself.

Oh and in relation to your comment of not going very much? Season ticket holder for 20+ years and do on average double figures each year in away games for the last 7 years so you can fuck right off with that

I've given up going away after going to Brighton last year - I don't think we had a shot at goal all game. Large has conned me into going to Sheff Wed as he says its a cup game & we have nothing to lose - but I still expect the same boring tactics.

    And I don't blame you
  • Anyway, let's have some reasons to be cheerful.
  • Okay:
    1) The Blackbirds love the apples that I put out for them in the garden.
    2) I still have the Christmas fairy lights up, and it's nice in the evenings, when it's cold and raining.
    3) I shall never meet Margaret Thatcher.
  • Can't believe this thread, take your rose tinted glasses off!!!!!

    We were shite!
  • Its easier to park at League 1 grounds - no need for park & rides at newly built grounds (Brighton)or being charged £5 to park in a disused factory (Huddersfield), but able to park in side streets just 5 min walk from the ground. lovely.
  • I can add crewe and a few others to the 92 bring it on
  • My youngest always gets bored after about 40 mins of watching Charlton at the Valley.

I'm fully expecting Thuram to change all that. :-(
  • Im happily seeing someone for the first time in a few years :)

Things can only get better, or not :-)
  • We finally have a nippy striker who looks dangerous and actually shoots.
  • considering I was expecting a hammering and we had people putting themselves on the line against a decent Wigan team, we fought hard, we got a goal, we hit he bar, half of the team don't know each other from a bar of soap, loads of youngsters, loads of new players, I think we did well, its gonna be boring for the same reasons Sam Alladyce shut up shop against Chelsea last week and fought out a draw, we need points, as the team gels and as the players get to know each other we will start to pick up points, we would have been out of the relegation zone if the ref had blown up on 88 minutes, its small margins and if one of our new strikers starts showing that his a genuine threat and banging in a few we will be alright, this has been a huge change for the club a new way of doing things, weve reduced the wage bill, we seem to have something in reza, and astrid was complimented by the wigan commentators when coming off, there was grit and last ditch defending... Its not gonna be pretty but Im taking heart and hope from the fact for the mass majority of that game we were on the brink of victory.
  • It isn't raining! In fact the sun is out...!

Anyone seen the pitch recently? Next weeks game has to be on....?!
  • my son is awesome
  • 2 reasons, we have a lot of home games which are winnable, plus our boggy pitch will help against the likes of QPR.

Second the bid for Gradel. £1.5m we haven't had that kind of money available for years
  • The future certainly wont be boring - we can only get better.
  • Also my girl promised me she's wearing her new undies I bought her from Anne Summers tonight

So how did that go for you fella?
