    RIP. A proper player. 

    I remember him playing in a charity game at The Valley in the 90s, and he still looked fit enough to still be a professional.

    Very sad news,  I had an uncle who for years would always say we should never have let him go.  RIP. BB.

    Great memories of Billy playing for us, he stood out early on, very athletic. He loved to rampage forward from the full back position.
    A great shock to me. A local lad, my mum worked with his brother Micky at Middle Park if I remember correctly.
    One of my all time favourite players cos of his all action style.

    Billy Bonds RIP my friend.

    He was playing in my first ever Charlton match I saw at The Valley.
    Saw him play his last game for Charlton against Birmingham City on a Friday night in May 1967.  Sold to West Ham for 47,000 pounds. What vaule he was to both clubs.

    The board at Charlton let him leave as we had a ready made replacement in Bob Curis to take his place.

    Up until very recently I would often see Billy walk through Bromley, he could still do 90 minutes I always thought, he kept himself in fantastic shape.

    A very nice man so many people would say who met him.

    Sadly before my time to see him grace The Valley but I saw him many times playing for WHU. What a player and should by rights have had 50 caps.

    As a kid I had the good fortune to be in Bonzo's company on a couple of occasions, through my old man's involvement in non-league management back in the day. Never saw my dad lost for words, just the opposite, but as a Hammers fan, Billy was one of his favourite ever players and he was properly starstruck. A fabulous player and a true gent with it.

    One of the  earliest players that stood out for me excellent footballer, Upset when he went to West  Ham as all of my friends wound me up, with Bobby Moore, and all the rest they had. First away match I ever attended, they were all over us. I have had to endure lads from Charlton always wearing West Ham shirts, from my time at Sherrington to living on Springfield Grove, but he had nothing to do with that! He was a key player for West Ham, RIP Billy I know you will be remembered by Hammer fan's

    Played in the first game I went to at Charlton, against Bolton on 20fh August 1966. First home game after Englands World Cup win.He played at Right Back. Remember some of the crowd calling him 007.

    Sad news. I never saw Billy play for us but he went onto to become a West Ham legend. I saw him around locally occasionally & met him once at a reserve game at Welling.

    I can't really remember my first games at the Valley, but I do remember Billy Bonds the superstar. 

    He took the throw ins, took the free kicks, bombed up and down the pitch and usually took control of games.  I was absolutely gutted when he left ... truly, truly, gutted.

    I had the pleasure of playing with Billy at Middle Park and then we both moved to Charlton youth team
    Needless to say which one of us was more successful and watched him playing so well for us

    Wonderful player,what a fine example to any young player starting out in the game.How he never got capped by England ,is a mystery.Just shows even back in the 60s we were still producing fine young players.

    I hope Charlton mark this next weekend as he was a significant figure for us as well as West Ham.

    Although I never saw him play for us in a competitive match I did see him play for Keith Peacock's Veterans side a couple of times. I saw him play for West Ham many times

    My favourite Charlton memory was at the old now demolished London Arena , Billy choose to represent the Addicks rather than the Hammers in the 6 a side over 35 Football Masters in 1999. He claimed it was because Keith Peacock asked him first, but the press speculated it was because he was still bitter about his treatment from Redknapp.

    Although he was around 20 years older than some of the other participants some of whom were still playing competitively he was in my view the best player on the night.

    The other story I can tell is about his father in law who apparently supported Millwall. I used to work with someone who used to attend at the old Den with Bonzo's FIL, my colleafue told me that at his funeral Billy personally thanked him for being a friend to his FIL. I thought this showed what a decent guy he was.

    What a player, legend. Like a lot of posters I remember him rampaging down that right wing.
    I was gutted when I picked up the newspaper and saw that he had been sold.

    I never saw him play for Charlton but I have it from a team mate of his that he played with passion whether you were 5-0 up or 5-0 down, he was a Managers dream. Sad day, but Billy won't be forgotten, RIP Billy.

    I think he was one of my most enjoyable customers interviews @ Barclays was Billy. He was a lovely man and happy to talk about his days at the Valley, and had some very interesting comments to make about modern football. I have to admit the appointment over ran.
