Our goalkeeper on the 18th January 2014

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yohann_Thuram-Ulien

Am I a cynic and this guy and Powell has been told told to play the fella today?

Just come back from Brasil yesterday so lost a bit of touch with goings on, was at the game and very curious why Hamer or Alnwick were not between the posts.

Thoughts please.

  • Hamer injured and Alnwick ill.

Dillon Phillips was on the bench and that should explain everything. Powell had no choice with both Hamer injured in the week (apparently) and Alnwick ill this morning (apparently).

    Apparantly being the operative word
  • I just don't think we could be so stupid as to leave both Hamer and Alnwick out of 18 just to make it look like they were both unavailable...
  • Ok Elfs. So Powell is instructed to play Thuram. Why put Phillips on the bench and not Alnwick ?.

Give you that, was not aware of our sub keeper. I hope my doubts are correct, early thoughts that is all
  • I think that SCP would have enough self respect to resign the moment that anyone tells him who to pick.
  • I hope my doubts are NOT correct, very tired, sorry!

If the board ought him before the end of the season that tells me a bit, if they keep him I will be very pleased for the future

because to us fans it would look bad to drop a keeper playing well having been ordered to play thuram!!

    I suspect Chris would walk.

    I suspect Chris would walk.

but this love for charlton would stop him walking surely
  • If Powell is ordered to play the loanees, why was the other one on the bench?

He ended up coming on and actually doing pretty well...

Same as Thuram, made a few great saves later on in the match.

to back up the conspiracy theory.

  • I would like to think Powell would refuse and pick who he wants and risk getting sacked rather than resign. It is him that has to submit the teamsheet at the end of the day.
  • Alnwick may have been told on the morning , you're on the bench and he's thought fuck that you piss taking c**** I'm not playing
Or he may have just been ill
  • I think more will be revealed on Tuesday when we see who is in between the sticks.
  • Just to throw a millwall supporter in the works.

    Why was Dillon Phillips there?

Do we normally take three keepers?

Was Alnwick ill before hand having been hit by the bug that was doing the rounds of the changing room so Dillon travelled just in case

Do we need more threads on this conspiracy?

    Has anyone seen Capricorn one?

Good point Henry. Hadn't though of why Phillips was there ?

Might not be relevant but don't forget it was widely reported a few years ago that Elvis was working in a chip shop in Middlesboro. Coincidence ?

Maybe Phillips travelled up on Saturday morning, once it was known that Alnwick had been taken ill?

    Unlikely, but maybe?

  • I would assume we always take 3 Goalkeepers on away trips in case 1 gets injured during the warm up or gets ill before the game. With Hamer injured and Pope on Loan to York Phillips is the only other option. I do like a good conspiracy theory though.

    Well, it won't be Thuram.

He's not eligible to play in any 3rd Round games.

The more I think about it, I believe this situation could be genuine and not a conspiracy.

The one thing that seems stupid is to have let Pope go to York last week and not wait until after the Oxford replay.

Alnwick's virus would explain why Pope unexpectedly appeared on the bench against Oxford and if Hamer broke down last Thursday as he confirmed on Twitter then it seems like there was a bit of a crisis going into Saturday and suddenly acquiring Thuram looks good business. As Pope is on a 'permanent' half season and not a 93 day loan with York I don't think we can call him back for one game if Alnwick is still ill so Phillips might even play at the Kassam.

On a more positive note Pope played and kept a clean sheet yesterday. Let's hope he goes on to be as successful for us as the other 2 Charlton Keepers with York City connections Sam Bartram and Dean Kiely.

  • when did the team travel up
  • Ok Elfs. So Powell is instructed to play Thuram. Why put Phillips on the bench and not Alnwick ?.

Because the CIA ordered Powell to do it, obviously, to deflect from their assassination of JFK and the Roswell business. Shhh.

  • Has thuram made the number one spot his own in only 90 minutes or is alnwick back in the team after he recovers from his "illness"

I guess only time will tell.

Oi, stop being logical. This is a conspiracy theory/thread! Only loonies allowed. ;)

Good point Oggy. Didn't realise that.

Don't forget Sir Charlie Wright was our number 1 for 5 years - and later managed York City.
