As we might have expected, it sounds as if the new owners are only now doing the due diligence on the team that they need to do before making any decisions about the manager or the players. I think from the tone of CP's comments, that nothing has yet been decided and we might be in for some big shocks before the end of the month.
I would imagine the owners want to be sure they have the right manager and players and won't know much about either. Tuesday may not have helped much! I can't see Powell being given a deal until he proves his worth to them - We don't own the club so what we think doesn't matter and it isn't our money! Having said that - the transfer window is open now and we do need to do some business to guarantee safety and this needs to be who the manager want's to bring in, providing the finanace is reasonable.
Hopefully, the new owner will see that promotion to the Championship and just narrowly missing the play offs last season will help secure a contract for CP. He certainly deserves that having had his hands tied this season on new players coming in, player contract issues and not least a team playing on a donkey field.
On the player front, I can't help wondering if the cost of putting the drainage / pitch right in the summer was known and factored in. Otherwise it is bound to have an effect on how much would be available for new contracts and players ?
If we were higher up the league he wouldn't be so worried, but if he gets let go at the end of the season he may well end up in league 1 again with a team with less funding.
I guess there must be a lot of work going on behind the scenes in lining up one or two if x, y & z all come together.
But it would have been better if the takeover was a month earlier giving the new owners their chance to have their detailed assessment before the window opened.
ShootersHillGuru Member 1:30PM Don't know what to make of it tbh. I know SCP can be economical with the truth sometimes but I get the feeling he's in the dark as much as the next man. He obviously hasn't been given a budget or licence to shop or even re sign players he wants. I think a comprehensive review is ongoing by person or persons unknown and we might just get shocked by what happens next. Just a gut feeling.

I agree with this as well. I think those that think the new owner will be waving his cheque book around in the coming weeks are in for a shock.

It looks like something like that may be happening - if so then it seems that clearer undertakings may have been given to the ground staff than to CP (see NWcorner's posts on the '600k on a new pitch' thread), which if they follow through on but don't allow CP to strengthen in this transfer window could mean we'd have the best pitch in League One ....?
We are not going into administration and we are not going into League 1! I don't think we are buying anyone this window but I would expect us to bring in some players on loan including a decent striker. The directors watch the same games as us and have access to SCP opinions and pro-zone reports etc. Let's see how we get on vs Boro and Oxford - a decent cup run might change everyone's perspective.
if I remember correctly after the announcement the actual take over was going to take at least a week, the new management then have to meet and appraise the current management at the Valley and SL, having done that they then have to plan for the future with the current or new managerial staff, this all takes time, the first priority was the pitch and it seems that has been addressed, now it must be the playing side of the club. There is still two weeks of the window remaining.
I'm sure we will see reinforcements probably in the main on loan. If I had just bought the club I would hang fire, assess then recruit. Maybe Boro is seen as a lose game anyway so gives breathing space. One thing RD has not been accused of is being stupid so I trust action will come.

So can anyone explain why so far we have got a left midfielder and goalie online (on loan, but quite a good predictive text one there!) from a "sister company" and not this supposedly pretty useful Iranian striker? Who is pulling the strings on these decisions - I'm not convinced it's SCP?
And, yes, Fanny - I dread to think what would happen to attendances if we did end up back in L1 - I found it difficult enough to get motivated to attend last time (until the promo season) - really not sure I could face it again! Call me a lightweight if you like...!

“@RichCawleySLP: Number of #cafc squad not keen to sign deal extensions until Chris Powell's contract situation resolved. More in tomorrow's @SthLondonPress.”

We have a left midfielder because he was available and Stewart's loan was over. Let's see if he is any good over the next few weeks. It is not clear at all who is making the football squad decisions. The keeper is here because he was available but does he add anything compared to Hamer and Alnwick.
One test for Powell is how he manages players already known to the overall group as this has to be part of the plan going forwards. We all know we need another striker to ensure we climb the table but it's not clear who is working for Charlton to cut a deal... Not Richard Murray and unlikely to be Katrien Meire.
I've mentioned it elsewhere but the new owner should really have a crack at the cup - winning the 6th round is worth silly money!

Surely this should have been established by now??? February is too late to get the answer.
So he puts a little spin on things and leaves us guessing.
