I know he's a former hero of ours, all be it a bit before my time, but do we know for a fact that he wasn't the one that assured the communications team that the pitch would be 100% playable before they announced it on the Thursday?
Either way I'm not suggesting that we sack him but this thread does come across as a dig at anyone that questions him and we do have another thread with over 750 comments, most of which are angry and disgusted at the game being called off.
If he's made a mistake then, even though I don't want to see his castigated for it, I don't think it helps if the fans get behind him and make it impossible for anyone to suggest an alternative approach to potential postponements.
Thanks very much for wrecking the feel good mood of our little love-in, KHA. How foolish of the fans to get behind a club stalwart who has found himself in a difficult position due to circumstances beyond his control; so thanks for showing us the light.
Actually, I think most of the people posting here are suggesting and alternative approach. Namely giving our groundsman the support he needs to do a good job, instead of underfunding and undermining him.
Give Paddy the tools, which it looks like he will have in the close season, and the Valley pitch will be back to its brilliant best. 100% behind Paddy, Nathan and team.

What was it 10k from Barnet, the guy is Maurice Banham mkll. 100% Charlton, 100% support. Just give him some money to spend and remember next time Paddy it goes "Greenside up"
How many people have actually criticised him? You are always going to get one or two ignorants - I think the best policy is to ignore them rather than assume they have the power to influence any decisions about Paddy's future.
Badly let down by the board (not the present owner) for many years for lack of investment in the pitch.
100%
Not JUST the last board - it's been deteriorating for several years now. Again not Paddy's fault though.
When he's given the tools our pitch can - and will - look awesome.
Completely agree with you Swisdom. Varney stated in the programme notes for Paddy's testimonial game in the summer that him and the board back in the early 2000's let him down by not investing in the pitch when they had the chance with the money received from being in the premiership.

Really sad to read this.
You give the impression that you've little regard with what Paddy Powell has done for the club during most of the past 40 years as star player and then groundsman; how much his heart has been in the club and the pride he has taken in maintaining The Valley pitch to consistantly high standards.
And yes, I do think it helps if the fans get behind him and show our support.

Do you really think that's how it works - Paddy talks to the comms staff and they decide between them to put the message out?

This is great. 100% from me.,
